Garmin Systems Architect 1 in Olathe, Kansas

We are looking for a full-time System Architect 1 to join our team in the greater Kansas City area.\n\nPOSITION SUMMARY: Provides leadership in project execution and design of new or existing systems or applications across multiple functional, system, or module areas. \n\n\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:\n\n\n\tDevelopment and design of system architecture\n\tDevelop an understanding of the performance of the system with current limitations or bottlenecks\n\tLeads system performance analysis utilizing trends, system metrics, and current business transactions, traffic, or usage through the system. From this analysis diagnose or make recommendations for improvements \n\tUnderstand future business growth needs and determines impacts and risks to the system \n\tUnderstand project or release requirements and determine impacts and risks to the system\n\tProvide cost-effective architecture recommendations to support the system’s growth, maintain system stability and provide a good user performance experience\n\tThese recommendations could be infrastructure changes, software to support the application, or configuration recommendations. Solutions or recommendations should also take into account scalability for future growth needs.\n\tResearch and Identify new technologies to improve system performance and availability. \n\tLeads or assists technology and product assessments, performing evaluations as required and making acquisition recommendations.\n\tProvides load testing requirements and participates in load testing for releases or any targeted load testing to evaluate performance or determining capacity for future growth.\n\tCreate and maintain architecture-related artifacts for existing and new solutions.\n\tIdentifies and develops improvements to procedures and processes to satisfy system architecture requirements and streamline operations.\n\tServes as a business-wide leader in project execution and design of new or existing systems and/or applications\n\tConduct requirements gathering/design sessions for new functionality and customizations \n\tGathers and documents complex requirements for business needs and independently determines complex solution designs across multiple functional/systems/module areas\n\tTranslates negotiates and communicates architectural and development concepts across development teams \n\tDevelops project documentation including statements of work, detailed project plans, architecture designs, detailed implementation plans, deployment plans, project test plans, and operational training materials \n\tCompletes complex troubleshooting and is able to determine the appropriate course of action to deliver actionable results\n\tDevelops reliable solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity\n EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:\n\n\n\tBachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another relevant field AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience\n\tOutstanding academics with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge\n\tDemonstrated experience in application server administration in Jboss, Websphere, Weblogic, and/or tc server\n\tDemonstrated experience in the successful implementation of technology solutions\n\tDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a large team or departmental setting\n\t\n\tAdvanced knowledge of infrastructure automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Salt or Chef).\n\t\n\t\n\tMust possess excellent automation skills and the ability to drive initiatives to automate processes.\n\t\n\t\n\tExpertise in Linux environments and scripting languages like Ruby, Python, Go and Shell\n\t\n\n\nDESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:\n\n\n\tSuperior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)\n\tPrevious experience working in a team environment\n\n\n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
