Garmin Software Engineer 2 - Garmin Labs in Olathe, Kansas

Garmin Labs is our internal product Research & Development team. From kids wearables and hybrid watches to the latest lidar/ sonar technologies and even revolutionary motorsports products. We are in constant pursuit of new markets and cutting edge technologies. This Software Engineer 2 will develop software for industry-changing products. This position will be located at our World HQ in the greater Kansas City area. \n\nWithin this team, you will have opportunities to contribute as an “intrapreneur” – we will surround you with a team of innovators with diverse skill-sets. We incubate and execute your big ideas!\n\nEssential Functions\n\n\n\tDevelops moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, assembly language, and other languages for Garmin products and/or applications consistently following Garmin’s coding standards and in accordance with applicable software development methodology and release processes\n\tUtilizes software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers in the software development process\n\tCreates and executes designs for small sets of new functionalities as part of a software project\n\tMay perform as a technical leader or Lead Software Engineer for software project\n\tCollaborates and adds value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions \n\tProvides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques \n\tPerforms technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems \n\tContributes to technical research on new technologies \n\tCreate quick prototypes to prove out new technologies or concepts\n\tServe as a mentor to less experienced software engineers (Software Engineer 1)\n\tApply Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed\n\tAssociates are expected to integrate, use, and provide feedback on products in development when possible as part of their normal job responsibilities\n\tSupports working hours as part of a rotating schedule to provide on call support of Garmin’s 24/7 operations\n\n\nOther Responsibilities\n\n\n\tWork closely with a small interdisciplinary team to define, prototype and develop new product concepts\n\tReview product and/or application information including manuals and brochures for technical accuracy\n\tParticipate in product and/or application definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs\n Basic Qualifications\n\n\n\tBachelor’s Degree OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience\n\tOutstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) \n\tDemonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of engineering tools necessary for successful performance of the essential functions of this job description \n\tMust demonstrate proficiency and possess experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languages\n\tDemonstrates mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)\n\tMust demonstrate proficient ability to capture and document software requirements \n\n\nDesired Qualifications\n\n\n\tPrevious work or internship experience with embedded computer vision or machine learning\n\tPrevious work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer products\n\tA strong algorithm development background\n\n\n \n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
