Garmin High Level Software Engineer 1- Automotive in Olathe, Kansas

Our Consumer Automotive product development team has an exciting opportunity for a full-time High Level Software Engineer 1 who is passionate about developing high-level C/C++ software for embedded devices. As a member of the product software team, you will be responsible for designing object-oriented software to implement customer-facing features. This team incorporates a wide range of navigation, sensor, camera and communication technologies to build products that are essential to our customer's lives. Our product development teams are looking for a full-time Software Engineer, with a passion for developing software, to provide technical leadership in our Olathe, KS headquarters. Essential functions include:\n\n\n\tMay serve as a Lead Software Engineer for a complex software development project Designs and/or reviews architected modules and software systems supporting new technology or improving capability/performance of existing functionality \n\tDecomposes functional requirements into well-defined tasks\n\tResearches fundamental problems and implements algorithm solutions that are appropriate \n\tBalances quality, quantity, and complexity in work output\n\tMay work with software vendors to integrate externally developed deliverables into project\n\tParticipates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents\n\tOffers process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate \n\tReview product and/or application information including manuals and brochures for technical accuracy\n\tParticipate in product and/or application definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs\n\tPerform other duties as necessary \n EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:\n\nBachelors of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics or another relevant engineering/technical field OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Other requirements include:\n\n\n\tExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)\n\tDemonstrates proficiency with designing well architected software systems and modules that support new technology or improve capability/performance of existing functionality \n\tMust demonstrate competence with researching fundamental problems and implementing appropriate algorithmic solutions \n\tDemonstrated ability to serve as a lead software engineer for a complex software project \n\tMust possess the ability to decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks while balancing quality, quantity and complexity in work output \n\tDemonstrated capability to offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs \n\tMust possess proficiency in writing software in C, C++, C# or Java as appropriate for performing the essential functions of this job description \n\tMust possess relevant experience and/or training in data structures or object oriented design methodology relevant to Garmin’s business needs\n\tMust possess relevant education and/or experience in software design, development and maintenance, as required for the successful performance of the essential functions of the position\n\n\nDesirable Skills:\n\n\n\tPrevious experience implementing User Interfaces and other customer-facing features using Object Oriented programming languages\n\tFamiliarity with testing, debugging and optimizing software on embedded systems\n\tPrevious experience designing and implementing Object Oriented designs in C++\n\tExperience following Agile development processes in a fast-paced, collaborative environment\n\tExperience performing peer reviews of software architecture, detailed designs, and work breakdowns produced by other software engineers\n\tSuperior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)\n\tPrevious experience working in a team environment\n\n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
