LSEG Principal Software Engineer - Full Stack in Nottingham, United Kingdom
This role is based in Nottingham and reports into the Desktop Framework Development Director. The Framework teams are in charge of the new Refinitiv Workspace product that is used by Wealth Advisors, Banking, Asset Manager, Trading users. The team manages the hosting infrastructure for Apps and Webservices, the client side framework (web based, and Desktop based on ElectronJS), data APIs and Integration APIs for business web Apps. The infrastructure support 150k customers. The team is composed of 100-200 devs and requires a Principal Engineer. The Team supports other development teams.
The Principal Engineer will work on some of the strategic project, working on the design, contributing code to critical pieces, reviewing codes and ensure best practices are followed by the teams.
The Principal will also work on prototyping new concept when needed. It could be around new infrastructure changes in AWS to validate performances or feasibility before the team starts implementing. It could also be doing POC on new solutions to meet a customer needs involving stitching components and APIs in HTML.
The candidate must be flexible and have the ability to learn fast new pieces of technology.
The team is currently working on migrating our on-premise application platform to AWS using Cloudfront, Serverless Lambda and Fargate containers. We also provide our own JupyterLab hosting application for our customers, and are on a path to enable web application development based on Jupyter Notebook in python. On client side, we are providing data API and interoperability to our customer and are looking at financial industry standard (FinOs, FDC3).
Responsibilities include but aren't limited to:
Provide technical leadership, ensure design and architecture are aligned with the global strategy
Participation in the overall framework design (server and client side)
Prototyping infrastructure work, customer solutions, works with Partners
Collaborate with Product Owner to translate Business needs in Design
Helping lead and mentoring junior team members to grow their best practices
Reports to Development Director the current progress, architecture and designs decisions, roadblocks and dependencies.
Working in an iterative and incremental environment
Maintaining existing systems, proactive monitoring and suggesting necessary changes to ensure good customer experience.
Ensure good practices such as CI/CD and automated testing
Accountable for quality of deliveries
Help the overall team to move to AWS
Essential Skills/Experience required
Cloud Development: AWS, Azure, GC (AWS preferred). Experience in Serverless Containers
Experience in REST API development
Experience in Front End development
Demonstrated experience with Document Databases and Relational Databases
Maintenance of widely used Applications and/or web services
Scalability and performance oriented
Have already designed or refactored complex architectures involving several teams
International experiences appreciated, used to work remotely with other teams
Candidate will be competent in the following areas:
Web services developments: C#, NodeJs, Python, Java
Knowledge in Document DB (DynamoDB, MongoDB) and relational DB (Oracle) is a plus
Python Jupyter Notebook
CI/CD, Automated testing
Good communication skills, ability to work remotely with teams (London, Belarus, Paris, Bangkok, New York).
Ability to collaborate successfully across geography boundaries, time-zones, cultural differences, etc.
Demonstrate multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
Innovative and looking to industry standards and trends.
Ability to self-motivate and hold enthusiasm to see tasks through to completion.
