LSEG Development Manager in Nottingham, United Kingdom
You will be responsible for managing 4 teams of software engineers in an Agile environment.
We need an individual who can help each individual team member to perform to their optimum ability. You will work closely with the Director of Engineering, Risk Screening, Director of Development, Architects and Developers to release high-quality software and deliver value to the business.
You will be able to understand system performance at a macro and micro level, designing for required performance, diagnosing performance problems in the architecture and in the code.
You will be able to understand how to design systems for availability – with automated failover, and for scale.
The developed systems will be deployed in the public cloud (AWS). It is necessary to understand to an appropriate level the services available on the platform and to keep track of emerging, relevant technologies.
Our primary goal in World Check one in the next two years will be to evolve the architecture into a Modern Cloud Native architecture, this role requires a balance of keeping touch with new technologies and how they will solve our problems along with an awareness of what problems they may introduce to our ecosystem.
Main Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Service first. All technology staff are required to prioritize service availability.
Deliver, to quality standards, sprint deliverables according to an agreed plan.
Communicate with managers, developers, product managers and technical support specialists on product issues.
Advocate and actively share improvements across teams and departments. Re-use and collaborate on improvements to processes and tooling.
Identify, reduce and remove blockers and distractions.
Set team and department goals and objectives, and effectively communicate them to all members
Support and enable progress on personal goals and objectives for all team members.
Ensure team members have the technical skills and training to accomplish software development goals.
Provide clear and frequent feedback to development team members.
Develop a culture and environment that aids the development teams in practicing the core agile principles. Collaboration, prioritization, team accountability, and visibility.
Work with architects, developers and service reliability engineers to release and deliver software on a regular cycle.
Provide procedures and staffing to maintain applications developed by the department.
Organize and facilitate capacity planning, space/resource planning, recruitment and technology alignment activities.
Participate proactively in developing and maintaining team standards, tools, and best practices.
Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution, empower the team to self-organize.

Strong background with supporting large scale web applications.
Demonstrate drive and commitment to the creation and delivery of next generation platforms to support risk technology
Take ownership of development. Represent the development team in the product management function
Understand the criticality of service to the customer. Take proactive preventative steps and respond immediately and with urgency to service issues.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: (market analysis, requirements definition, competitor analysis, etc.)
Team player with strong experience of working with virtual teams from different functions and regions, and from external partners
Able to communicate confidently and concisely with people at all levels. Technologists and non-technologists, senior managers and team members. Proven ability to translate the vision/strategy into clear priorities and direction.
Able to identify and build talent. Able to push team members towards their goals and progress them to do bigger and better things, to the benefit of the whole company.
Demonstrate and promote a culture of commercial awareness.
Proven experience using formal software engineering tools and methodologies, including design, development, testing, etc. Preferable experience in a strong SCRUM environment.
Able to inspire their team
Experience of cloud technologies, preferably AWS. Development and architecture.
Experience of managing a multiple teams of developers (circa 40+)
Experience with migrating applications to Cloud Native solutions.
Risk management software.
Experience in risk management concepts (desired, not essential)
A good relevant degree is desirable, but experience and the right approach to work are just as important.
A development or cloud certification is desirable but not required.
