National Grid is hiring a Manager, In House Construction, for our Internal Substation NE division. This position is located in Waltham, Massachusetts. It's a hybrid role with approximately 2 days in the office more or less, depending upon business needs.

Job Purpose

This role is responsible for leading and motivating the NE internal substation construction team, who constructs electric projects to support the successful operation & maintenance of the New England electric system. The manager will collaborate with other departmental managers within the team to provide oversight of project resource assignments which includes an internal represented workforce.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage an internal labor workforce of 140+ employees responsible for delivering an average construction portfolio valued at $150M+ annually.

  • Optimize construction delivery to achieve high productivity, low costs, and efficient work practices and to ensure compliance with National Grid policies and procedures.

  • Direct the efforts and resources of the team to ensure safety, reliability, security, and integrity consistent with company goals, objectives, and policies while maintaining full compliance with applicable existing and future governing agency codes and regulations.

  • Provide off hour response to non–planned system emergency situations.

  • Work with management stakeholders to identify and implement business process improvements and best practices in a consistent manner; and remain abreast of changing environments.

  • Communicate progress and status of projects to key stakeholders with regular cadence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field (ideally Electrical or Civil) preferred, or 7 to 10 years of electric utility construction experience, including 3 to 5 years of utility management experience.

  • Experience managing a construction workforce with focus on safety, cost control, adherence to environmental regulations, work quality and efficiency.

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, OSHA, local, company safety and environmental rules and regulations.

  • Familiarity with the tools, equipment, materials, and qualifications of a workforce which support construction or demonstrates an ability to be able to become proficient in those areas.

  • Strong aptitude for computer and business applications (e.g., MS Office, Teams, Excel, Word, etc.), used to fully leverage technology solutions in the construction work environment.

  • Familiarity with contracting practices as it relates to bid, awards, and contract language in the construction field, as well as familiarity with the collective bargaining agreements, grievance resolution, and arbitration process strongly preferred.

Salary: $146,000 - $172,000
