JPMorgan Chase Corporate Finance: Bank Controller, Accounting Policy & SEC Reporting - Bank Legal Entity Controller - Associate in Newark, Delaware

Bank Controller, Accounting Policy & Reporting team overview:

The Bank Controller, Accounting Policy and Reporting organization consists of the following teams:

  • The Bank Controllers team is responsible for the Legal Entity Controller (LEC) functions for JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A. (Lead Bank), JPMorgan Chase & Co (Parent Co) and JPMorgan Chase Holdings LLC (JPMCH), including on-going capital monitoring and adequacy. The group is also accountable for the Firmwide Legal Entity (LE) strategy and simplification agenda, and for managing the Firmwide LE reorganizations & capital actions (RCA policy), affiliate support documents (ASD policy) and Reg W governance.

  • The Accounting policy team establishes global accounting and disclosure policies for the Firm and provides guidance on the accounting and disclosure of complex and judgmental accounting matters.

  • The Reporting team consists of SEC reporting and the QRC function. The SEC Reporting team is responsible for the compilation, review, and filing of the Firm's consolidated quarterly and annual financial statements and supplemental information for the quarterly Earnings Release with the SEC. The QRC function is responsible for quality reviews of various JPMorgan Chase's external financial reports and presentations, including earnings material and the Annual Report and proxy.

The Bank Legal Entity Control team is responsible for the governance and oversight for the integrity and accuracy of financial statements of JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. (Lead Bank), J.P. Morgan International Finance Limited (Edge Act Corporation) and J.P. Morgan Overseas Capital LLC. Additionally, the team is tasked with ensuring that a strong control environment exists as it relates to all businesses, products and operational areas that impact the Legal Entity financials and regulatory reporting.

Associate Roles and Responsibilities:

This role in the Bank Legal Entity Control team will focus primarily on consolidated JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. ("JPMCB" or "Bank") financial results and disclosure controls over the semiannual Bank Financial Statements. This role provides a unique opportunity to interact with multiple lines of business and internal stakeholders while developing & enhancing knowledge in the areas of U.S. GAAP, SEC and regulatory requirements and how they affect JPMCB reporting.

Reporting to the Bank Reporting & Consolidation lead, the Associate responsibilities will include the following:

  • Oversee the accuracy and integration of the disclosure controls over the Bank Financial Statements and regulatory reports

  • Develop working knowledge in the areas of U.S. GAAP, SEC and regulatory requirements and how they affect JPMCB reporting

  • Perform analytical review, including variance commentary, on period over period movements in the income statement, balance sheet and footnotes

  • Perform analytical review, including variance commentary, on related party activity

  • Evaluate and track to resolution Bank level reporting issues and errors

  • Analyze policies and their applicability to the Bank legal entities

  • Assist in the Booking Model review and on-going Legal Entity Control Standard compliance monitoring

  • Recognize areas for improvement and develop plans for implementing process enhancements

  • Participate in Firmwide legal entity reporting projects including infrastructure and process improvement efforts and other Controller initiatives as needed


  • Strong accounting and analytical acumen, with ability to understand, produce and explain income statement and balance sheet content and variances

  • Superior attention to detail

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to prepare executive level presentations

  • Ability to work effectively with others, as well as act as an effective liaison with all business partners within the lines of business or legal entity chains

  • Strong initiative and work ethic

  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure, with an ability to be flexible in a dynamic and challenging environment

  • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint (and other software presentation package) skills required


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related business field

  • 3-5 years finance/accounting - related experience

  • CPA or CPA equivalent

  • Previous experience in a 'Big 4' Accounting Firm, Internal Audit, or other corporate control function with strong understanding of financial reporting and internal controls preferred

  • Strong accounting skills including experience analyzing control environments

  • Demonstrated history of analysis of information with superior attention to detail

  • Outstanding ability to communicate (written, verbal, presentation skills) effectively with peers and senior management

  • Experience working on multiple, complex projects with a sense of urgency that drives decision making

  • Team player with ability to build strong cross-business and cross-functional relationships - proven flexibility, adaptability and reliability

  • Broad knowledge of financial services businesses and products as well as related functional areas (Treasury, Tax, Legal, etc.)

  • Excellent and efficient skills using MS Excel and PowerPoint tools
