University Student Accessibility Services and Programs Director POSITION DETAILS Disability Programs in the Office of Student Inclusion Initiatives within Student Affairs at the City University of New York (CUNY) is committed to ensuring equal access and opportunity for students with disabilities through innovative support programs, grounded in nationally regarded best practices in post-secondary disability services which support the academic success and personal development of students with disabilities and provides technical assistance to CUNY?s 25 campuses in providing reasonable accommodations to students through a comprehensive approach with central support to maximize resources while controlling costs. The Office of Student Inclusion Initiatives supports the development of programs and opportunities that promote the wellness, success, belonging, and full participation in CUNY life of student communities that have historically been underrepresented at the University. CUNY seeks an experienced higher education accessibility professional with expertise in accommodations, autism, inclusive adaptive sports, disability program development, fundraising, and staff management to promote an environment of inclusivity for students to have opportunities for meaningful engagement in campus life and campus membership for the University Student Accessibility Services and Programs Director position. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Student Inclusion Initiatives, the University Student Accessibility Services and Programs Director will expand access and services to students with disabilities across CUNY?s college campuses by managing all aspects of student disability programming development, implementation, delivery, assessment, evaluation, and compliance activities, plus marketing, recruitment, and outreach activities. They will be responsible for the daily system management of reasonable accommodations, support services, and signature programs that promote equal access, academic success, career readiness, and inclusion for CUNY?s 10,000 students with disabilities, and provide administrative oversight and technical guidance to a network of 22 campus-based Student Disability Services Offices. CUNY?s signature disability programs include CUNY LEADS, Project REACH, and CUNY Unlimited. The Director will lead program expansion for the REACH and Unlimited programs which focus on academic and employment opportunities, autism awareness, and support for neurodivergent students In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, other key duties include, but will not be limited to the following: Oversee student/campus ADA compliance issues and complaints elevated to Central Office. Assess campus performance in delivering CUNY Unlimited inclusive curriculum for compliance with US DOE guidelines and in preparation for accreditation review; pursue funding and partnership opportunities to expand the program model. Develop, manage, and implement collaborative projects with relevant city and state agencies such as the Mayor?s Office of People with Disabilities (MOPD), ACCES/VR, and NYSCB which include leadership development and employment opportunities for students with disabilities. Identify and cultivate funding opportunities to expand disability programming at the University including grant writing and relationship building. Administer the RFP process through which micro-grants are issued to campuses to: serve as CUNY-wide technical assistance centers, i.e. the CUNY Assistive Technology Project, the Learning Disabilities Project, and the Media Accessibility Project; fund best practice program models which support CUNY students with disabilities. Prepare program budgets and allocations for the University?s ADA Disability Services Lump Sum funding to campuses, including LEADS and Enhancing Supports; manage billing and reporting for sponsored programs. Conduct programmatic planning for CUNY Disability Programs and initiatives, including trainings, external speakers, and grant activity requirements; represent the Office at meetings, events, and conferences Cultivate a strong media presence for the CUNY Disability Programs via social media platforms and other traditional media, and managing its webpage for updates and maintenance. Supervise, train, and develop disability programs for staff members. NOTE: Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum: Bachelor?s degree and eight years? related experience required. PREFERRED The ideal candidate should demonstrate or possess: Advanced degree in disability studies, special education, social work, higher education, counseling, or other related discipline Eight years? progressively responsible experience managing student disability services and programs serving college students with disabilities in a higher education institution, including developing policies and guidelines for providing services to college students with students with disabilities including: developmental, intellectual, learning, sensory, physical and psychiatric disabilities, as well as veterans with service-related disabilities Experience advocating for equal access for and providing mandated accommodations to students with disabilities in college settings Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment (ADA) as it applies to colleges and universities, assistive technology specialists, and educators Customer service excellence focus with strong organizational and follow-through skills Strong work ethic with ability to maintain integrity, confidentiality and discretion Collaborative work style with strong listening, group facilitation, presentation and cross-cultural interpersonal skills for effective communications and productive relationships with diverse students, faculty, staff and external professionals Computer proficiency using web/cloud-based academic, administrative and financial systems, Office 365, and virtual meeting and collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, WebEx) CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW Provides administrative oversight and direction of University-wide support services, programs, resources and accommodations for students with disabilities or accessibility or accommodation needs. Develops and implements comprehensive programs and related policies serving students with disabilities to ensure their access, retention, and academic success in partnership with University and college campus staff and faculty members Serves as an advocate and resource on student accessibility concerns issues and works collaboratively to identify, facilitate, and implement an array of student support services, clinicians and appropriate training activities for faculty and staff Leads University-wide program assessment plan to evaluate program delivery of services, student learning outcomes, and student satisfaction Manages department and program related fiscal planning, allocations, marketing, and grant funding; oversees agreements, partnerships, and relationships with vendors/contractors providing on-site specialized services Interprets and ensures inclusiveness, awareness and compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations collaboration with internal and external parties Manages, trains, and evaluates staff May manage other student programs serving a specific student community as needed Performs related duties as assigned. CUNY TITLE Higher Education Officer FLSA Exempt COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The salary range is $124,656 or $132,987, commensurate with education, credentials, and experience.
