The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Technician B will catalog all incoming biospecimen samples, process all of the samples into buffy coat, plasma, saliva, serum, and urine aliquots and store them in the -80 freezers. The Technician B will also assist with logging and delivering biospecimens from the collections points across the Medical Center campus. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining laboratory supplies, diligent record keeping, preparing solutions and performing other related duties necessary to the functioning of the Biobank. Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities Processing Samples - 50% Spinning samples in a centrifuge. Utilizing a robotic liquid handler to aliquot urine, plasma, serum, and buffy coat. Storing aliquots in the automated freezer. Manual Handling of Samples - 20% Manually handling samples when the robotic system is down. Aliquoting urine pellet. Processing Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell (PBMC) samples manually. Discarding Samples - 10% Disposing of samples in accordance with consent from research participants and institutional protocols. Record Keeping - 10% Recording sample information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Maintaining equipment calibration and other records, per laboratory SOPMs. Picking Up Samples - 5% Collecting samples from partner labs (CORE, CALM, etc.) as needed. Transporting samples back to the BRIDGE lab (estimated once a week, approximately 1 mile of walking). Other Duties as Assigned - 5% Performing additional tasks as required to support laboratory operations. Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience handling blood specimens. Experience with automated liquid handling systems.
