Job Type: Support Staff - Union Bargaining Unit: SSA Regular/Temporary: Regular Hours Per Week: 35 Position Summary The Technician A for the Department of Surgery will assist within the laboratory of Dr. Giovanni Ferrari to facilitate translational cardiothoracic research studies. The individual will work closely with Principle Investigators and Post-Doctoral Researchers on a variety of research projects focusing on heart valve physiology, cardiovascular tissue biomechanics, vascular cell physiology, and tissue biochemistry. Will also collaborate with clinical cardiothoracic and animal research teams. Responsibilities Collection of surgical specimens from the operation room Analysis of patient-related charts and data-extraction of clinical data Prepare clinical samples (including blood and tissue specimens for histological analysis). Facilitate benchtop research and manage clinical information pertaining to research specimens. Establishing and verifying novel lab protocols. Installing and testing new laboratory equipment. Compile and present results in a brief and efficient approach. Assist with the preparation of manuscripts and presentations. Communicate amongst both researchers and clinicians. Support other functions as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program or equivalent in education, training and experience. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred. One year of related experience preferred. Other Requirements Intermediate MS Office skills Must be able to successfully complete systems training requirements.
