The Graduate Center seeks an International Student Advisor who will advise and issue I-20and DS-2019 forms for our F-1 and J-1 international students and their dependents. This position reports to the Director of the Office of International Students. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties include but are not limitedto: Performs SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System)and CUNY First Batch Processing of I-20 forms and DS-2019 forms. Advises international students on obtaining and maintaining F-1 and J-1 non-immigrantstatus, travel and visa applications, and the benefits of their legal status. Monitors and reports on F-1 and J-1 college enrollment and federal compliancerequirements. Responsible for SEVIS Registration. Advise, recommend, and/or authorize international student employment based on the benefits of their legal status, including but not limited to, On-campus Employment, Optional Practical Training, Curricular Practical Training, Severe Economic Hardship, and Academic Training. Provides information to faculty and administrators regarding both University and student obligations pertinent to U.S. entry, status maintenance, work permission, health and safety,maintaining normalacademic progress, and programcompletion. Updates and maintains the International Students Office Website, social media, listservs, and other electronic communication with international students. Organizes and facilitates immigration and cultural orientationsessions and other workshops of importance to international students. Stays current withF-1 and J-1 regulations,Student and Exchange Visitor Program policies, Universitypoliciesand procedures, and other US Government policies as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of this job classification. All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 70% of their work time. For full-time staff, this is equivalent to 7 out of 10 days of in-person work in a two-week period (e.g., 7 days in person, 3 days remote). This hybrid work schedule is subject to change. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree required. A preferred candidate shouldhave: A minimum of one year of DSO or ARO experience. A working knowledge of the F-1 and/or J-1regulations. Knowledgeand experience withSEVIS operations,requiredreporting, and recordkeeping. Must meet Department of Homeland Security qualifications for SEVISAccess. Experience advising internationalstudents. Experience processing international student requests in SEVIS and/or in batch system CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW Assists and advises international students on immigration and related issues Advises new and continuing international students on immigration procedures, registration, change of status, leave of absence, and other issues; facilitates immigration paperwork and data processing Processes information in related systems such as SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Immigration System) and I-1440 databases related to student activities; assists in maintaining student records and creating related reports Maintains up-to-date information on regulations, policies and practices (internal and external) pertaining to international students Assists in organizing orientation programs, cross-cultural events, and informational workshops Performs related duties as assigned.
