The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Staff Nurse will have both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The Staff Nurse will provide professional nursing care, health education and health services to students. Administrative responsibilities will include assisting with preregistration requirements for entering students (including immunizations, meningococcal vaccine waiver forms, and reviewing health history and physical exam forms). Duties and responsibilities will be carried out within the framework of established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Responsibilities Provides professional nursing care to enrolled students: Assesses, evaluates, treats, counsels and/or refers students to advanced practitioners as needed. Assists and supports providers (DO/MD/NP), as needed. Organizes administration of necessary immunizations, PPDs or verification of titers for new students arriving on campus to fulfill registration requirements. Administers immunizations, including travel vaccines to both entering and continuing students as required by provider order or non-patient specific standing order as allowed by NYS. Administers allergy desensitization injections as ordered by the student?s allergist. Collect and prepare requested laboratory specimens Conduct necessary point of care testing as dictated by provider order or non-patient specific standing order as allowed by NYS Assists with student compliance regarding health forms and immunization requirements. Monitors receipt of and reviews submitted materials (documentation from entering or continuing students) for accuracy and completeness. Documents care given in the electronic medical record in accordance with state requirements and best practices. Participates in monitoring clinical/medical supply inventory, including monitoring of expiration dates and ordering needed supplies. Attends departmental meetings and clinical huddles and participates on assigned committees as required. Participates in Peer Review and Quality Improvement Initiatives. Performs additional related duties as assigned, including triage and cross-coverage of Immunization Coordinator and medical assistants. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience plus three years of experience. Completion of an education program allowing licensure by New York State as a state registered nurse can substitute for education and experience. Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred. Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of New York. Knowledge of immunization requirements and practices. At least three years clinical experience as a registered nurse, preferably in an outpatient setting, including experience with immunizations (e.g., travel clinic or student health). Current CPR/AED certification Preferred Qualifications Computer literacy required, including Excel and word processing. Experience with electronic medical records highly desired Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary health care team required.
