The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a Desktop and Server support position at the rank of Staff Associate II beginning June 1, 2024. Initial appointment is for six months, with the possibility of annual renewals contingent on satisfactory performance. Reporting to the Director of IT Resources, the incumbent will provide the following services to the Department of Biological Sciences: Participate in providing end-user support for all employees in the department Install software as needed; troubleshoot hardware and software issues when necessary Maintain and trouble-shoot departmental computer systems (workstations, file servers, web servers) Help the department's research groups with backups and data restoration Advise faculty, research staff, and graduate students on purchase and use of computer and peripheral equipment Assist faculty with computer replacement program Work with university-level IT support team to resolve network, email, and other issues Although infrequent, some evening and weekend hours will be required. Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's degree in related field (Computer Science, IT Support or similar field) Minimum Qualifications: 4 years of relevant work experience. Knowledge of Windows servers, Linux servers, various desktop software packages (Adobe, Microsoft, Apple, etc.), and basic coding and programming skills for batch file creation. Preferred Qualifications: Level 2 or higher Help Desk support with hands-on experience. All applications must be made through Columbia University's Academic Search and Recruiting (ASR) system.
