Description The Vasan Lab at Columbia University Medical Center studies the molecular mechanisms of oncoprotein signaling and inhibition in breast cancer and other solid tumors. We seek to recruit a Staff Associate I to participate in various lab-based projects across cancer types. We are also pursuing a number of translational projects. Functional Knowledge Will maintain cell culture, screens, and machinery responsible for maintenance. Problem-Solving Provide assistance and coordination to various lab research projects. Decision-Making/Autonomy Work within various lab research projects and standard operating procedures to maintain drug cell lines. Technical Expertise Will maintain and operate cell culture work using both cell lines and primary cells, simple biochemistry and somatic cell genetics, and drug treatment. Communication Strong organizational, good communication, interpersonal, and training skills for interacting with lab personnel. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a specific research field. Other Requirements Some experience in cell culture and molecular biology techniques is expected but not required. Willingness to work with mice Strong experimental and analytical skills Strong organizational and time management skills, willingness to be flexible with work hours, occasionally Strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written Exceptional attention to detail and meticulous record keeping Experience in staff training and transfer of knowledge Ability to work independently and also collaborate with leadership to implement novel techniques and methods and to support the overall impact and outreach of the core.
