The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The GRID3 (Geo-Referenced Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development) project works with countries in Africa to generate, validate, and use geospatial data on population, settlements, infrastructure, and subnational boundaries; and helps design adaptable and relevant geospatial solutions based on capacity and development needs of countries. Under GRID3, the Senior Research Staff Assistant (SRSA) ? GIS Analyst supports exploratory data analyses, data processing, and data integration tasks. He/ she supports the implementation of geospatial data production pipelines related to settlements, infrastructure and/or subnational boundaries; contributes with basic scripting as needed. He/ she supports data exploratory analyses of geospatial data; and contributes with written and visual content to inform reports, research papers, and presentations, among other research outputs. He/she participates in webinars, workshops, or other knowledge-transfer events. He/she assists with literature review and other research tasks, as needed. Responsibilities Aids in geospatial data processing and integration tasks related to formatting, cleaning, editing, standardization, manipulation, etc., through pre-determined Python-based code; adjusts scripts and documentation as needed. Supports the implementation of data production pipelines related to settlements, infrastructure, and/or subnational boundaries datasets. Assists with data quality checks (i.e. visual, automated), as needed. Supports exploratory data analyses of geospatial and/or tabular data. Contributes with written content, web maps, story maps, and/or other data visualizations to effectively communicate project outputs. Contributes with basic Python code to document research processes and outputs. Contributes to the overall knowledge base for geospatial data processing and integration. Supports the generation of content for research papers, presentations, posters, etc. Assists with the generation of content for training materials, tutorials, and/or user guidelines. Participates in webinars, workshops, or other knowledge transfer events. Assists with data cataloging, data documentation, desk research, literature review, and other related tasks, as needed. Participates in teleconferences, meetings, working groups, and related activities as needed. Works with other CIESIN staff to accomplish project milestones. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, or other related program, and at least 2 years of relevant experience is required. Proficiency in ESRI software (i.e. ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) is required. Knowledge of alternative GIS software and/or applications is considered an advantage. Fluency in Python language/compatible libraries to support GIS processes is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required. Preferred Qualifications Fluency in French and/or Portuguese is considered an asset. Ability to work well in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams is strongly preferred.
