CONTRACT TITLE Non-Teaching Adjunct FLSA Non-exempt CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers multiple academic degree and certificate programs designed to meet the needs of working adults, as well as traditional-aged college students, who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and in the community. The Joseph S. Murphy Institute serves as entity within SLU, housing Worker Education and Workforce Development (WEWD) and Public Engagement, with two specific goals: (1) to partner with labor unions, government agencies, employers, and other CUNY units to expand educational opportunities for union members and adult learners seeking the knowledge, skills, and credentials necessary to achieve their career goals and improve their economic well-being, and (2) to serve as a hub for discussion and debate on the challenges confronting workers and working-class communities. The WEWD unit at SLU's Muprhy Institute seeks a Part-Time program specialist to assist in a range of recruitment, outreach, advisement, and administrative tasks within the College Access for Working Adults Program (CUNY Days) and College Prep program. Reporting to the Director of Worker Education and Workforce Development, the specialist will: Conduct student enrollment and retention activities including but not limited to: recruitment and outreach activities and events, orientation sessions, and follow-up; application assistance and admissions support; academic advisement and counsel to enrolled students; collect and maintain enrollment data and generate necessary reports Use career exploration platforms to assist participants with finding educational paths that align with career goals. Frequently used platforms include O*Net online and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook. Assist with marketing and promotional efforts related to targeted events, including various ditigal platforms and mainstream social media Other duties as assigned NOTES: Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and on-site in the office. Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree required. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in higher education administration, social work, or other related field At least two years' experience in college admissions, academic advisement or counseling, with knowledge of technical platforms and software used in these realms Experience working with adult learners, with proven ability to lead presentations and facilitate small group discussion Willingness to learn new technologies as they pertain to conducting these duties at CUNY Strong attention to detail, a self-starter mentality, strong organizational skills and ability to thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment Flexible availability, able to work evenings and weekends as well as travel throughout the five boroughs when needed. COMPENSATION Employees in Non-Teaching Adjunct Titles are eligible to work up 625 hours per fiscal year. Starting rate is $47.42/hour. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment. After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day. Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
