POSITION SUMMARY The Software Product Owner is an important member of the product management team within Information Technology. This position will support our instance of the AI-powered chatbot Ocelot (and other products as needed) by defining and prioritizing product features and working closely with our stakeholders to ensure their requirements are met. Reporting to the AVP, Enterprise Software Product Management, the Software Product Owner will partner closely with the functional area(s) to build an understanding of their operational processes and identify opportunities for these processes to be streamlined, enhanced or improved using the products in their portfolio. The ideal candidate will have experience in product management, including staying current with the products in their portfolio and applying strong project management skills to implement enhancements and/or releases. This candidate will also have a strong desire to further the mission of a premier higher education institution. RESPONSIBILITIES Define and prioritize product features based on customer needs, market research, and business goals for Ocelot and related products. Maintain vendor relationships and network with industry contacts to understand the product roadmap and to identify how other institutions are getting the best ROI from their products. Communicate product vision and requirements to stakeholders and team members for their products. Conduct user research and gather feedback to inform product decisions. Create and maintain a product roadmap that aligns with business goals and customer needs. Evaluate and prioritize product backlog items based on value, risk, and dependencies for their portfolio of products. Ability to lead training sessions when necessary and/or coordinate training users to empower new business units to effectively manage ongoing operational activities. Manage ongoing analytics; create and socialize these reports on a regular basis for insights into continuous improvement. Develop an understanding of the integrations between the systems for which the product manager is responsible and other University systems and troubleshoot issues as they arise. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the market, competition, and customer needs for the product(s) being supported. Measure product success and make data-driven decisions to continuously improve the products. Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate progress and status updates regularly across products. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Understanding of the higher education work environment and ability to navigate and problem solve effectively Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field. 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar role. Strong understanding of agile and/or waterfall methodologies and principles. Experience working with development teams to deliver software products. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Experience conducting user research and gathering customer feedback. Ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with project management tools such as Team Dynamix or Google Sheets. Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Masterâ™s degree in business, technology or a related field PMP certification or relevant experience Product Management Certifications Past experience as a developer and/or technical architect is a plus WORK MODE Remote - Employees in this position will work remotely, and are not expected to be on campus. The university has designated specific states in which it will register and in which Fully Remote employees will perform work.
