AXIS Capital has an opportunity available for a senior production underwriter who will source, review, evaluate, and manage complex Accident & Health programs and individual risks. This includes assessing risk, setting underwriting parameters for MGUs/Program Managers including both rates and coverage levels.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Production underwriter that focuses on managing existing and sourcing new A&H partners.
In conjunction with the Actuarial team, reviews and evaluates complex Accident & Health new business opportunities/programs and submissions to determine risk acceptability and coverage levels.
Works closely with business development and external MGUs/Program Mangers to obtain additional required information in determining either our new or renewal position.
Works with Legal, Product, Operations, Claims and Business Development to on-board new MGUs/Programs and/or modify existing MGUs/Programs.
Develops and maintains both internal and external producer/program relationships.
Sets appropriate premium rates, issues proposals for programs/cases, and letters of intent when appropriate.
Achieve targeted loss ratios and combined ratios by maintaining underwriting discipline through the underwriting selection and renewal process.
Participate in Underwriting & Risk Committee meetings.
Manages day-to-day tasks of assigned risk portfolio.
Monthly and quarterly reporting and analysis of portfolio Acts as liaison between internal functional departments and external vendors
Handles special projects and assignments at the request of A&H leadership team.
Ensure digital files are maintained per AXIS Insurance procedures including but not limited to proper documentation, structure, and authorizations.
Required Education/Training & Experience:
College degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum of five (5) years of underwriting experience which includes at least two (2) years Accident & Health Underwriting experience. P&C insurance is helpful but not required.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with and overseeing MGAs/MGUs or Program Managers
Market Segment knowledge: Pet Insurance, Amateur & Professional Sports, K-12 & College Students, First Responders, and Volunteer Organizations
Product knowledge: Accidental Death and Accident Medical, Disability; Pet Insurance knowledge is a plus
Other product knowledge helpful but not required: Corporate Accident (Business Travel Accident, Voluntary Accident), Occupational Accident, Critical Illness, Life, Supplemental Medical, Dental and Vision

Proficiency in Microsoft’s Office 365 suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project)

Travel required (10%)
For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $105,000-$130,000 (IL), $110,000-$140,000 (NJ), $115,000-$150, 000 (NY). The specific salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including the experience of the successful candidate and their work location. In addition, all employees are eligible for competitive incentive targets, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance.
