The Urban Systems Lab at NYU seeks a Senior Research Scientist / Associate Research Professor to lead research in climate modeling, spatial analysis, AI approaches for resilience planning and risk assessment. The position will provide expertise in geospatial research and urban systems, data science, quantitative modeling, and with management of data infrastructure experience and working in interdisciplinary research teams. This position also plays a key role in the ClimateIQ project, overseeing development of climate modeling approaches to support urban climate adaptation and disaster risk management. The role includes mentoring research staff, managing technical projects, and collaborating with global research, industry, and government partners, while managing research, data analysis, and overseeing the Lab?s high-performance and cloud computing infrastructure. Responsibilities Develop and implement geospatial modeling approaches for climate risk assessment. Lead AI-driven research initiatives to enhance urban adaptation strategies. Direct research on related urban risk and resilience areas such as transportation and energy systems, land use change and scenario-based decision making. Provide mentorship and leadership for graduate and postdoctoral researchers. Engage with city governments, utility providers, and industry partners. Publish in high-impact journals and contribute to policy development and technical reports. In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $80,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. PhD in Geospatial Science, Data Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field. Expertise in spatial analysis, predictive modeling, and AI-driven decision-support tools. Geospatial analytical skills including in ArcGIS and related software as they apply to urban system dynamics Quantitative modeling skills including use of AI for scenario modeling Strong statistical analytical skills including spatial statistics Experience leading interdisciplinary research teams and securing external funding. Strong publication record and ability to translate research into policy applications.
