Job: Science Fellow Coordinator Job Summary: The SWF Coordinator reports to the Director, Associate Director, and Administrator of the Writing Programs and manages the undergraduate and graduate Fellows who are designated as "Science Writing Fellows" and/or work on Science related programs. This is a full time, year-round position. Job Description: Responsibilities include: Coordination of the Science Writing Fellows (SWFs) Program for both undergraduate and graduate Science Writing Fellows Coordinating with faculty and staff to attach SWFs to science courses each semester In partnership with professors and SWFs, developing an attached course plan, uniquely tailored to the course requirements Troubleshooting day-to-day problems, questions, or last minute changes as they arise Coordinate attached classes for the Science Writing Fellows during the summer and winter break Reach out to professors to increase class diversity Managing Writing Center Scheduler as it relates to attached science courses Creating schedules for Bio-1500, SWFxTA, organic chemistry, and general chemistry Checking-in with Fellows (one-on-ones) at least once per semester Conducting biweekly group meetings to engage and consider Fellow input in all aspects of the program as well as furthering training for Fellows (workshops, partnerships, etc.) Sending biweekly newsletters to Fellows that include updates and events Developing and hosting workshops about writing in the sciences Training interested SWFs on workshop facilitation Working closely with professors to develop tailored workshops for specific classes (such as FYW/FYS, Academic Writing Intensive, Introductory Lab classes, etc.) Sustaining existing partnerships (attached courses, science departments, Barnard organizations), and building new ones Existing partnerships include: Beyond Barnard graduate school applications, Access Barnard workshops, Summer Research Institute, and OP Programs Existing relationships include: The Barnard Librarians, The Computational Fellows, the Empirical Reasoning Center, and The Center for Engaged Pedagogy Developing the science writing training portion of Writer's Process which has historically included leading workshops on fellowing lab reports and offering mock Science Writing Fellow conferences Attending the first class and a few other class times when applicable Attending weekly meetings with Administrator, Associate Director, and Director of Speaking and Writing Programs to provide updates about Science Writing Program Troubleshooting programmatic difficulties as they arise Maintaining and developing the google drives and google sites Keeping a record of the development and growth of the program Supporting the Susan Ratner Pedagogy Speaker series Consistently collecting data on usage of programming (workshops and attached courses), student feedback, and other program metrics Writing reports to showcase this data for internal and external purposes This data can be collected via the scheduler On campus to make the SWFs Program more visible on campus Actively participating in Barnard events and reaching out to departments and organizations Communicating with Barnard professors, administrators, and staff members to promote the SWFs Program Conducting outreach to other colleges and universities with similar programs to develop Barnard's SWF Program Making posters and flyers to promote WC events Recruiting future cohort of SWFs in the Spring Participating in all SWF interviews, evaluating applicants, and making final decisions with the administrative team Supporting Summer Programs as they relate to the Science Writing Fellows Programs include: Summer Research Institute, the Summer Opportunity Programs, and Pre-College Programs Coordinating summer Science Writing Fellows to manage the needs of the program Offering workshops in collaboration with professors, librarians, and Speaking Fellows Scheduling 1:1 appointments between Fellows and students Building and sustaining relationships with Writing Fellow alumni in partnership with Writing Program Administrator through alumni board meetings, events, and more Developing Fellow-alumni connections Developing and working towards a long-term vision of the Writing and Speaking Centers which may include Considering the financial future of the center and Fellow payment Developing the subprograms of the Writing Center Building on existing coordinator manual with developments from each semester Skills, Qualifications & Requirements: Pay Range: $62,400 annually The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
