The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI) at the Jovanovic Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences , the Research Staff Assistant provides administrative support for the Lab and supports the development of the research on post-transcriptional gene expressions. The Jovanic Lab is broadly interested in understanding the principles and mechanisms by which translational regulations control the dynamics of gene expression and therefore affect processes like differentiation, stress response, and pathogenesis. This is a one-year, full-time grant-funded position with the possibility of renewal contingent funding approval . Responsibilities Assists with the preparation and processing of samples for mass spectrometry and next-generation sequencing. Under the guidance of the senior lab members, performs data quality checks to ensure data quantitative and qualitative data integrity. Ensures compliance with laboratory safety and procedural standards. Utilizes basic techniques in biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and molecular biology to support ongoing research projects. Set up experiments for the PI and other lab members. Collaborates in the execution of experiments and ensures accurate and reliable results. Provides support with collecting and maintaining research data. Assembles Components for Lab Research. Performs routine maintenance and calibration of equipment to ensure true accuracy. Keeps the laboratory clean and organized. Maintains inventory and ensures that supplies are ordered and received promptly. Assists with orientation and training of new lab members. Oversees undergraduate students and provides guidance on basic laboratory skills and protocols. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor?s degree in a scientific discipline and one year of experience in a research environment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor?s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or any relevant field. Working experience with fundamental techniques in biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and molecular biology. Other Requirements Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to maintain high confidentiality and professionalism with a client focus. Strong multi-tasking, prioritization, and organization skills. Attention to detail, research, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills. Self-starter, a fast learner who can work independently under limited supervision. Work well in an interactive team environment. Working knowledge of database programs.
