We seek a Research Scientist for the NSF Funded The Genetic Architecture of Internal and External Tooth Configuration in Non-Human Primates project. The research scientist will run a quantitative genetic study that explores how genes, environment, and development interact to produce quantifiable phenotypes across dental tissues. The project compares variation at the outer enamel surface (OES), enamel dentine junction (EDJ), root, and pulp chamber in two non-human primate species ( M. mulatta , S. fuscicollis ), using paired microCT and pedigree data. Based at NYU, the position entails travel within the U.S. (including Puerto Rico) for data collection, scanning, and outreach. Approximately 25% of the research scientist's time will be devoted to curation initiatives for the Cayo Santiago Macaque collection house at NYU, including training undergraduate and graduate students in curation, scan processing, and data collection. The project is in conjunction with Dr. Kathleen Paul at the University of Arkansas. Start date is September 1, 2024 – August 31, 2025. The position is for one year, renewable for up to 2.5 years total. Starting salary is $62,500 (rising each year if renewed) and comes with benefits such as healthcare. In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62,500 - $62,500. Research experience in growth and development and tooth structure (including enamel, dentine, and pulp) in extant and fossil primates, required. Evidence of peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and successful grant applications also required. A minimum of 5 years of experience training students in laboratory techniques required. Experience with museum curation and collections management preferred.
