Position Summary The Tal Danino Lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, is seeking a research assistant (RA)/Technician ( one year- grant funded) to assist in the day-to-day technical tasks of the laboratory. This one year grant funded Research Assistant (Full time) will assist and perform (1) work with animal cancer models and (2) molecular biology techniques including gene cloning, bacteria and cell culture. Additional duties and responsibilities include (not limited to) checking and maintaining stocks and solutions in lab, staying up to date with regulatory trainings, and general lab support. We are seeking a motivated individual with a strong background in neuroscience or molecular biology, and strong history of working with small animals in a laboratory setting. There is potential for growth and opportunities with this position and is to be expected. This is an ideal position for a recent graduate looking to pursue further graduate studies or medical professions. Responsibilities (40%) Assist and work with animal cancer models. Assist in performing injections in subcutaneous, intravenous, intraperitoneal, and oral route. Observe animals and measure their body weight, stool consistency, hemorrhage, and tumor volume. Assist in collection of tissue samples from animal for histological analysis and RNA sequencing. (40%)Help with general molecular biology techniques, including bacteria cloning and cell culture. Molecular biology techniques: restriction digest, PCR, quantitative PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis, mutagenesis, Gibson assembly, etc. Bacteria culture: Sterile technique, maintenance of bacterial strains, LB broth, transformations Cell culture, passaging, and maintenance of cell lines. (10%) Assist with maintenance of the animal room including autoclaving used cages and inventory management. (10%) Assist in the maintenance of lab safety protocols.Performs other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as required. Minimum Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree required in a scientific discipline. Bachelor?s Degree required/Master?s degree in Biology or a closely related scientific field with knowledge in general microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology techniques and animal studies preferred. Other requirements (at least one-year experience): 1. The ability to work independently, under minimal supervision, following appropriate training 2. Knowledge of basic chemical and/or biological terminology and techniques 3. Experience with animal studies 4.Ability to perform work in a neat and orderly manner in accordance with safety regulations 5. Computer literacy: proficiency with Microsoft Office 6.
