The Marine Polar and Geophysics division at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in Marine Geophysics. The successful candidate will be engaged in an NSF-USGS collaborative project focused on studying the preconditioning and triggering mechanisms of submarine landslides along continental passive margins ( https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2140398&HistoricalAwards=false ) . The primary responsibilities of the position include investigating the Neogene history of mass transport deposits offhshore North Carolina including the most recent Cape Fear slide complex. This research will use the new active-source seismic, bathymetry, subbottom profiler, and piston core data that were collected aboard the R/V Marcus Langseth in the Spring of 2023. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Geophysics or related field, and have experience in the analysis and interpretion of 2D multichannel seismic data. A background in seismic attributes analysis, modeling, and stratigraphic mapping would be beneficial. The search will be posted for at least 30 days from the date the ad appears and will remain open until the position is filled. Initial appointment will be for one year, and is then renewable for a second year depending on progress and availability of funding.
