The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Scientist (PDRS) position to focus on the subject of tropical cyclone hazard and risk modeling, including the relationship of tropical cyclones, and possibly other types of extreme weather events, to climate variability and change. The position will be located at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, New York, within the Division of Ocean and Climate Physics and under the mentorship of Professors Adam Sobel, Suzana Camargo, and Chia-Ying Lee, and Professor Michael Tippett in Columbia's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The work will involve the use and interpretation of statistical-dynamical and/or dynamical models of tropical cyclones and climate as well as climate model output and observational data sets. Candidates should have recently obtained or be nearing completion of a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or related field is required. Initial appointment will be for one year with continuation for up to three years pending progress and funding.
