Job: Open Rank Professor of Physics and Astronomy Position Description: The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Barnard College, Columbia University, seeks to appoint a tenure-track assistant professor, or tenured at higher level, in experimental physics including interdisciplinary topics such as condensed matter, materials science, biological physics, etc. Candidates will be evaluated on their potential to develop a vigorous experimental research program at Barnard that also allows meaningful research opportunities for undergraduates. Applicants for this position must possess a doctoral degree in Physics or a related field and have a compelling publication record. Candidates should have demonstrated the ability to engage in pioneering research. We are also seeking evidence for the promise of excellence in teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Application Requirements: Applicants should submit a cover letter (please upload under "Statement of Interest"), CV, a research statement, and a teaching statement, as well as arrange for 3 letters of recommendation to be drafted on their behalf. In the cover letter, applicants should address their ability to work effectively with a student population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender and gender expression, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Short listed candidates will be asked to provide reference names and contact information later in the application process. Please be prepared to share three professional references. The search committee plans to conduct Zoom interviews with semi-finalists in January. Campus visits will be conducted in February. Salary: $85,000-$300,000 per year The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
