Office Manager

We are looking for anOffice Managerto oversee the daily operations of our New York, Washington D.C., and Delaware offices. In this role, you'll build and maintain strong relationships with both attorneys and business professionals while leading the recruitment, supervision, and hiring of business professionals. Additionally, you'll assist with attorney recruitment, financial oversight, and office management. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Assess office needs and concerns through regular meetings with office leadership, attorneys, and business professionals.

  • Manage office operations, including determining appropriate staffing levels, and partnering with Human Resources to recruit for open positions.

  • Act as liaison between the office and building property manager to communicate facilities and security requirements and updates.

  • Assist with budget planning and monitoring office expenses.

  • Review and approve expense reimbursements in accordance with firm policies.

  • Provide onboarding and training regarding firm policies and office procedures; coordinate training for job-specific requirements.

  • Conduct employee evaluations, administer merit increases, and work with Human Resources to counsel business professionals who are not meeting the firm’s standards.

  • Coordinate and manage workload allocation within the office, including overtime and coverage for absences.

  • Consult with business professionals to resolve problems, and, where appropriate, act as facilitator to resolve conflicts with attorneys.

  • Act as primary contact between the office and Dorsey administration by answering questions and facilitating problem solving.

  • Support and advance the Firm’s dedication to inclusion and diversity.

  • Plan office events and other activities to foster employee engagement.

  • Assist the Marketing department with event management, including seminars, receptions, and special events.

  • Assist with processing Dorsey Foundation applications and renewals.

  • Assist with occasional real estate projects, office moves, office expansion and/or downsizing.

  • May perform other duties not mentioned above.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or at least 5 years of related supervisory/management experience, preferably in a law firm.

  • Successful experience in implementation of management policies, practices, procedures, and systems.

  • Strong administrative, management, and leadership abilities.

  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to provide general management direction and strategic guidance to lawyers, managers, and business professionals.

  • Ability to anticipate and identify problems/issues; recommend and implement solutions/alternative courses of action.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitivity and discretion, sometimes dealing with difficult management decisions and situations.

  • Strong client service focus and commitment to Dorsey’s values of diversity and inclusion.

  • Excellent conflict management, coaching and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of Firm personnel in a team environment.

  • Ability to facilitate individual and group meetings.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, synthesize information, delegate, follow up and monitor projects.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects; ability to work under pressure.

  • Excellent technical skills, including Microsoft Office.

The pay range for this position in New York City only is an annual salary of $140,000 to 175,000.

This range represents Dorsey’s good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills and location and may fall outside of the range indicated.
