MassMutual Lead Java Developer in New York, New York
The Partner Management team within Sales & Distribution Technology, is seeking a Tech Lead for the Partner Data Exchange – Cloud domain (PDE Cloud). PDE Cloud is a new, early-stage team/function, implementing Cloud based technologies and capabilities to facilitate the transfer, and transformation of data among internal and external third parties (admins, distributors, vendors, systems etc.) in support of the Sales & Distribution of MassMutual products and services. The ideal candidate will be skilled in all levels of cloud-based web services, microservices and application development. Experience in the insurance and financial services industry, specifically exposure to standard feeds (ACORD, DTCC) is preferred. In this role you will be responsible for design and development of web applications and services, primarily back-end focused. Candidate must be flexible, team player and possess excellent written, verbal, and communication skills.

Partners with business and technical stakeholders
Operates independently on multiple project tasks
Participates in all phases of design, project planning, execution and testing
Produces application artifacts per SDLC, Agile, and DevOps audit requirements
Implements high-quality, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions
Meet today’s needs with the potential to scale or adapt to the needs of the future/new emerging technologies
Designs technical solutions based on business requirements and architectural guidelines, leveraging AWS capabilities, the Java Spring framework, and various other technologies
Proficient in core Java in addition to various libraries and related technologies (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Maven, Git, Docker / Kubernetes)
Designs web services (SOAP, REST, microservices) and APIs as Spring Boot applications
Participate in all aspects of development including design, delivery, and operations (DevOps)’
Defines and executes on technical strategy, including team alignment to task and implementation
Identify areas for process improvement and automation
Understands and advocates for secure coding practices (OAuth, Secrets Management, etc.)
Facilitates code reviews and mentors peer developers on best practices
Coaches, mentors, and supports junior-mid level members of the team

7 years of software engineering/development experience
3 years of demonstrated technical leadership (tech lead, lead developer)
Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to lead software developers via design, mentorship, peer reviews, and coaching
Expertise in explaining complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong foundation in algorithms, design patterns, and efficient coding practices
Deep understanding of software development best practices and secure coding principles
Proficiency with Java, including Core, Spring / Spring Boot (JDK 8, Open JDK 11)
Experience using Maven, POM files, dependency management, etc.
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service)
Experience designing, building, and testing web services / microservices / APIs
Working knowledge of CI/CD practices
Experience with Atlassian suite, mainly JIRA and Confluence
Significant experience with various AGILE methodologies, and some exposure to DevOps
A passion for continuous learning and a desire to share business and technical knowledge
A bachelor’s degree in fields including computer engineering, computer science, information systems, or equivalent
Willing and able to work east coast hours
Able to travel to Boston, MA; Springfield, MA and NY, NY as needed
Master's or other advanced degree in applicable field
Experience working in a DevOps environment
Proficiency with XPath and XML parsing in Java
Experience implementing OAuth 2.0 and general web service security best practices
Experience leveraging Confluence and/or Lucid Charts to create designs and documentation
Target job salary $105,300.00 - $183,300.00 USD Annual
