Position Summary Under the supervision of the Renal Lab Medical Director and Divisional Administrator, the Renal Laboratory Manager will supervise technical staff including making recommendations on staffing, hiring, disciplinary actions and evaluations. The Lab Manager will also oversee technical staff scheduling, performance evaluation and attendance records, evaluate and select new instruments and equipment, validate new equipment, establish and implement emergency and preventative maintenance procedures on equipment. Coordinate personnel, equipment, and incoming work. Will enforce established departmental policies and procedures ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies. Will be responsible for analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving day-to-day technical issues. The Lab Manager will provide back up support for busy histopathology laboratory including light grossing, embedding, paraffin & frozen microtomy, routine staining, special stains, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy. The incumbent will successfully carry out and maintain QA/QC policies and procedures and maintain statistical records and other related laboratory duties. Responsibilities 50% - Tissue processing, embedding, tissue sectioning (paraffin and frozen), staining (H&E, specials, IHC, IF) and cover slipping. EM electron microscopy ultra-thin sectioning and tissue preparation. Analyzes, resolves, and trouble-shoots day-to-day histology tasks as needed. 25% Daily technical workflow & staff supervision, including technical staff scheduling, performance evaluation and attendance records. Assists in the training of new hire and other supporting staff. 10% - Facilitates troubleshooting and resolution of routine technical issues. Effectively trouble-shoots and maintains laboratory equipment, which includes all types of equipment. Assists in setting up, evaluating, and trouble-shooting new techniques. 5% - Successfully carries out and maintains QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures. Maintains statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory. 5% Oversee lab?s supply inventory. 5% - Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications New York State Department of Education Clinical Lab Technician/Technologist license Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and Four years of related experience Must have prior experience in routine histology technique. Preferred Qualifications Master?s degree and at least one year of experience Prior experience in a supervisory capacity (histology lab) is highly preferred Other Requirements Must have routine and specialized histology skills. EM electron microscopy ultra-thin sectioning Ability to work in an organized manner in accordance with established regulations, policies, and procedures. Must have experience with highly complex laboratory equipment and/ or computer applications. Must be able to work independently and under limited supervision. Must have specialized theoretical understanding and practical experience in a particular area of research.
