The Abreu lab at NYU?s Department of Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Junior Laboratory Associate or Laboratory Associate. This position is for a trainee preparing for a research path. It will provide development of technical skills; supervision by senior scientists incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and possible publication of research findings during appointment period. The Abreu lab studies microbial ecology and evolution. We combine tractable experiments, high-throughput genomic tools, and simple mathematical models to formulate rules of how microbial communities respond to changing environments. For more information about the lab, visit our website: https://sites.google.com/nyu.edu/abreulab Responsibilities will include assisting with ongoing projects in the laboratory, including performing molecular biology protocols such as DNA extraction, PCR, plasmid preps, yeast transformation, and evaluating Sanger sequencing results. The trainee will also be expected to maintain accurate records in a lab notebook, assist with data analysis, perform literature searches and summaries, participate in regular meetings, and help maintain lab supplies, reagents, and equipment. In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $58,656. The ideal candidate will have a BS or MS in Biology or a related field, prior research experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
