Job Description

The Head of Strategy and Program Execution will play a pivotal role in collaborating with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) to craft and articulate the department's strategic direction. This position will spearhead the implementation of strategic initiatives across Wealth, Corporate, Commercial, and Institutional Banking (WCIB).

The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing program and project governance, including budgetary planning, project execution, risk management, and will have a leading role in developing nascent IT capabilities, such as innovation management, digital transformation, strategic supplier management, and quality management.

Additionally, this role will have responsibility to provide leadership oversight of architecture and data strategy for WCIB. Effective communication and reporting with management and stakeholders will be crucial to ensure cohesive execution across teams.

This role will also lead/manage strategic and operational initiatives such as Continuous improvement program, Client satisfaction metrics and measures, driving strategic plan and associated market research, and represent WCIB technology as needed in various corporate activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILIES

Strategy Development and Implementation:

  • Collaborate with the CIO, CPO to develop and refine the IT strategy aligned with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable plans and initiatives.

  • Lead the execution of strategic programs across WCIB and related product areas.

Program and Project Governance:

  • Oversee program and project governance processes to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.

  • Develop and implement robust budget planning mechanisms to support strategic initiatives.

  • Monitor project execution to ensure adherence to timelines, quality standards, and budgetary constraints.

  • Mitigate project risks through proactive identification and implementation of risk management strategies.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Facilitate communication and reporting with management and stakeholders to provide updates on strategic initiatives' progress.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and buy-in for strategic objectives.

  • Address stakeholder concerns and issues in a timely and effective manner to maintain support for strategic initiatives.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the IT strategy and program management team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.

  • Foster a collaborative environment across teams to ensure cohesive execution of strategic initiatives.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • MBA or equivalent work experience.

  • 15 or more years' experience.

  • Consulting experience in a major firm desirable but not required.

  • Demonstrated ability to work across groups, using an influence-based model.

  • Experience managing strategic Program Portfolio and IT Strategy and Architecture functions.

  • Strong intellectual curiosity demonstrated ability to learn new content; externally grounded in market trends, competitive events.

  • Courage to disagree; confidence to develop and defend strategic perspectives; maturity to accept alternative decisions.

  • Capable of articulating compelling strategies and motivating peers and cross functional teams; with an ability to balance listening and advocacy to achieve desired strategic goals.

  • Experience in business/industry (beyond IT), managing cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $200,685.00 - $236,100.00 - $259,710.00
