In order to responsibly execute on Equitable’s growth strategy launched in May 2023 at Investor Day, Risk Management has been charged with reorienting its risk philosophy to become a strategic enabler of growth, whilst being cognizant of the risks of the company and protecting our balance sheet.
The Head of Financial and Strategic Risk role will be a critical part of the Risk Management Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer. This leadership role is critical for developing, implementing and maintaining risk management frameworks that protect the company’s financial health and strategic objectives.
Reporting to this role will be Credit, Investment, Balance Sheet, liquidity, hedging, ALM and strategic transaction financial risk oversight. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape a strategic team and institute best practices at a company experiencing rapid and positive change.
This role offers the opportunity to:
Build leadership skills through oversight of and nurturing the talent within a function in transition
Manage an approximate 10 people team including balance sheet and liquidity risk oversight, credit and hedging risk oversight and opinion on financial impacts for strategic transactions.
Enterprise leader with exposure to the Management Committee, Business Line leaders and other leaders within Actuarial, Investment and Finance
Inform the strategic direction of the enterprise through the provision of risk-based market insights
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Lead the day-to-day responsibilities of the Financial Risk Management function (with support of Risk functional leaders), including
* Balance Sheet OversightCredit and Investment Risk
Hedging and ALM
Strategic transactions to optimize capital, liquidity, value and/or earnings
Support CRO relationships with first line (business, actuarial, finance) and third line (Internal Audit)
Continuous assessment of the balance sheet, its potential vulnerabilities and opportunities to enhance our risk profile
Coordinate preparation of reporting to the Board and Management Committee
Support the company strategy by providing technical insight into evolutions of current and potential new markets and transaction implementation
Continuously seek opportunities to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and automation of risk management tasks
Equip our business partners with sufficient knowledge of the risk framework so that risk is incorporated into their decision-making process
Ensure Risk indicators and limit are fit for purpose and enable the new growth strategy
In Office Schedule: This role will be working in the NYC office a minimum of 2-3 days per week.
The total targeted compensation range for this position is $350,000 – $475,000. Total compensation varies based on skills, experience, geographical location, and other factors.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree
5 years of experience in risk or finance at an insurance company or consulting firm
Established knowledge of financial risk management principles and practices. Expertise in credit and financial risk management preferred.
Ability to lead complex “special projects” that may require de novo intellectual capital development
Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders and influence decision-making at all levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven accountability, high integrity, diligent and self-starter work ethic
Experience leading medium to large teams in an insurance company or consulting environment
Skills
Decision Making and Critical Thinking : Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.

Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization.
