Job Summary

Reporting to the Treasurer, the Head of Capital Management will be responsible for managing the insurance balance sheets of EQH. Specifically, the individual will oversee capital and free cash flow projection, analysis, and attribution, develop and drive strategic initiatives to optimize the Company’s balance sheet, and maximize the efficiency of the Company’s capital usage across various legal entities, products, and other deployment opportunities. The individual will also oversee reinsurance strategy and the liability side of the variable annuity hedge program, as well as select regulatory advocacy efforts related to solvency standards and accounting rules.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead capital target setting, capital projection, and actual-to-expected attribution of statutory balance sheet movements

  • Lead pro forma balance sheet assessment for proposed initiatives and transactions – e.g., M&A, reinsurance, structured assets

  • Lead statutory hedge strategy for the company, taking into account the economic risk profile but subject to accounting constraints

  • Provide thought leadership on the future state of the industry and potential impact to Equitable's overall balance sheet and capital

  • Counsel to senior executives on critical capital and finance matters (including capital-related regulatory changes and overall life industry landscape shift)

  • Initiate and manage capital-related projects to ensure strong and efficient balance sheet. Projects may include but are not limited to cash flow securitization, contingent capital solutions, reserve financing, structured solutions, reinsurance transactions, legal entity structure optimization, hedge strategy re-design and hedging instruments selection

  • Manage the capital budgeting and allocation process to support and optimize new business issuance by commercial business lines

  • Partner with Finance leadership on enterprise-wide projects for senior management – e.g., corporate strategy, transformational M&A

  • Build consensus and effectively influence mid-level and senior-level stakeholders

  • Work closely with banking partners, consultants, and other external stakeholders to source expertise and ideas

The base pay range for this position is $162,000 - $248,000. Total compensation varies based on skills, experience, geographical location and other factors. Compensation for this role will also include an annual bonus and deferred compensation.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree; FSA and CFA preferred

  • Extensive knowledge of US statutory accounting, reserving, and RBC rules, particularly for variable annuities; knowledge of solvency regimes in other jurisdictions preferred but not required

  • Familiar with peer practice and industry landscape for balance sheet management and optimization

  • Experience and excellence in:

o Identifying key strategic issues and projects to enhance capital strength and efficiency

o Developing internal metrics to measure balance sheet strength over time and through-the-cycle

o Drafting presentations to senior management and various committees (e.g., ALCOs)

o Providing market and competitive intelligence

o Providing insights on capital and balance sheet impact for strategic actions including M&A or divestments

o Challenging business leaders and teams to drive shareholder value

  • Excellent critical thinking, sound judgment, complex problem-solving and execution skills

  • Ability to develop cross-functional relationships to build cohesive and collaborative teams, acting as strategic driver and manager of key strategic initiatives

  • Adept at persuasive communications, supported by insightful, fact-based analyses and industry expertise

  • Project management experience with the ability to demonstrate leadership in the sponsorship and execution of multiple, concurrent and complex business initiatives

  • Executive presence required to present to senior management and various committee form
