Financial Aid Coordinator POSITION DETAILS The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master?s Degree (27 months program). Under the supervision of the Financial Aid Director, the Financial Aid Coordinator will assist with managing and administering financial aid programs to support students in achieving their educational goal. This role involves financial aid counseling, processing applications and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Financial Aid Coordinator duties include but are limited to the following responsibilities: Counsel and advise prospective and current students on (e.g. financial aid eligibility, application procedures, costs of attendance, and financial planning). Support the College's enrollment management efforts by conducting financial aid workshops and information sessions for prospective and current students. Review and process financial aid applications, including FAFSA and institutional forms. Verify application information and resolve discrepancies and prepare, review and award assigned student packages. Maintain accurate and confidential financial aid records, documentation, financial aid databases and systems to ensure student information is up to date on a regular basis. Monitor and troubleshoot issues related to automated financial aid software modules and databases (e.g CUNYFirst). Collaborate with other departments, such as Admissions, Registrar, and Bursar to ensure seamless service to students. Respond to inquiries from students and staff regarding financial aid matters and resolve issues and complaints in a timely and professional manner. Perform related duties as assigned by the Financial Aid Director, or designee. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree is required. PREFERRED: Two years? experience in student operations/assistance in a higher education or health related setting Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. High level of confidentiality and commitment to student services. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Proficient in the use of both academic and financial systems, databases, and programs, plus Microsoft Office 365 programs, and remote/virtual meeting/conferencing and collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, WebEx, Skype, etc.) Use technology in an effective manner for training, communicating, analyzing, and reporting. CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW Coordinates financial aid procedures and activities and provides financial aid information. Schedules workshops, reviews applications, establishes pay cycles, disburses funds and resolves disbursement problems, and records awards, disbursements and returns Coordinates, verifies and resolves problems regarding the disbursement of scholarships and grants by verifying student eligibility, establishing pay cycles and reviewing pay-outs Reconciles accounting and disbursement schedules Provides data for financial aid and donor reports as needed Supports the College's enrollment management efforts by providing financial aid information to prospective students, their families and their high school counselors Serves as liaison between the college and direct loan providers Performs related duties as assigned.
