Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Residential Life, the Director for Residential Staff and Programs is a member of the leadership team responsible for a campus housing operation serving approximately 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students in University-owned and leased residential properties. This position directly supervises three assistant directors who, in turn, supervise the residence hall professional staff. The Director for Residential Staff and Programs leads recruitment, hiring, personnel management, and ongoing professional development for more than 60 department professional staff. This individual collaborates with colleagues responsible for paraprofessional hiring, leadership initiatives, faculty programs and wellness to implement department mission and strategic priorities. Responsibilities of this position include: oversight of residence hall services and processes; interface with university offices including community standards; public safety and facilities; co-advise the Resident Assistant Council; and respond to complex student and parents concerns. The individual in this position is provided a campus apartment and is required to participate in a duty rotation.


Required Education:

Master's Degree in Student Personnel Administration or related field

Preferred Education:

Doctoral Degree or (M.B.A., J.D., Ph.D) preferred

Required Experience:

7+ years progressively responsible experience in student affairs, residence life, professional staff supervision, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Experience:

7+ years related experience within a large urban university housing program. Experience working with a diverse student population and/or leading a diverse team.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to exercise superior judgment and discretion, as well as maintain integrity and confidentiality. Proven ability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
