Deputy Director of Institutional Research Job ID 25872 Location Central Office Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular POSITION DETAILS The City University of New York (CUNY) is seeking a Deputy Director of Institutional Research to manage the data analytics, compliance reporting, and survey work of the Institutional Research team in the Office of Applied Research, Evaluation, and Data Analytics (OAREDA). Reporting to the University Assistant Dean of Institutional Research, the Deputy Director of Institutional Research is a key member of the Institutional Research team, whose analysis and reporting contributes to institutional planning and decision-making at the University. The Deputy Director will manage and supervise a team of data analysts with responsibility for mandatory federal, state and city data reports, ad-hoc data requests, generating data for grant applications, administering surveys of CUNY students, faculty, and staff, and conducting a wide variety of quantitative analyses. The Deputy Director will also lead analyses of post-secondary outcomes, manage all aspects of survey research projects (including survey administration, survey data management, analysis, and reporting), contribute to developing and presenting on analytic methodologies and disseminating results to a variety of audiences. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical, technical, communication, and organizational skills. The Office of Applied Research, Evaluation, and Data Analytics (OAREDA) consists of a dynamic group of data analysts, program support specialists, application developers, and data managers who turn raw data into information for decision support to the Chancellery of the City University of New York (CUNY), the University community, and external constituents. OAREDA is organized into four main areas ? Evaluation and Program Support (REPS); Institutional Research (IR); Policy Research; and Data Management and Analytics ? that have distinct but intersecting responsibilities that contribute to the overall work of the office. In addition to the job summary above and CUNY Title Overview below, other essential duties include, but will not be limited to the following: Directs the IR team?s preparation of data for compliance reporting to federal, state, and city governmental agencies and in response to internal and external constituent requests; Leads survey research projects including survey administration, survey data management, analysis, and reporting; Manages and conducts research on the student higher education life cycle and post-graduate outcomes to support the University mission, strategic goals, and key initiatives around student success; Develops effective formats for presenting, communicating, and illustrating findings, including tabular and graphical presentations; Identifies appropriate data resources and metrics to support the analytic and reporting requirements of a broad and diverse audience of internal and external data consumers; Defines topics and opportunities for data that advance institutional interests and initiatives, especially those related to access to higher education and student success; Provides quality control by checking the work conducted by junior analysts and contributes to the professional development of the Institutional Research team; Helps to promote a culture of data literacy and data-informed decision-making across the University. NOTES: 1) Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office. 2) Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment. QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM Bachelor?s degree and eight years? related experience required. PREFERRED An advanced degree in a directly related discipline (may count for up to two years of the required experience) plus formal graduate training in quantitative research and evaluation methods. Eight years of higher education research experience in institutional research or related area with a focus on quantitative research and/or data analytics and reporting. Strong technical skills with the following: extensive experience and intermediate proficiency using statistical software and performing data management and analysis in R; ability to write SQL and create/run queries against an Oracle database; joining/integrating data sets from multiple sources; proficiency with Tableau or other data visualization tools, proficiency with a survey design and administration tool such as Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, FormStack, etc.); strong facility with Excel, including the ability to write complex formulas and leverage pivot tables and graphing functionalities. Demonstrated ability to use data to answer research or evaluation questions, including defining the problem, identifying appropriate data resources, conducting in-depth analyses and interpreting and communicating results. Ability to use sound judgment to draw conclusions and make recommendations. Effective writing and presentation skills to clearly document and communicate processes for various audiences in several report formats (visual, narrative) as well to convey results of analyses. Proactive and collaborative work style with strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with direct reports, supervisor and University administrators. Strong project and time management skills to meet project deadlines and the ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities. Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and remote/virtual meeting and collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, etc.). Designs and oversees University-wide institutional research efforts and assists with focused research, assessment and evaluation at University and campus levels Collaborates with University and campus administrators on strategic assessment issues, including measures of student success, learning outcomes, and general institutional effectiveness Develops procedures to support analysis, planning, and assessment in student and academic areas Manages institutional research data systems and related resources Maintains management information and statistics for internal and external reporting Performs related duties as assigned. CUNY TITLE Higher Education Officer FLSA Exempt COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Salary range is $83,878 to $124,656 and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and education.
