American Museum Of Natural History Cook, Southwestern Research Station (Portal, AZ) The Southwestern Research Station (SWRS) located in the rural community of Portal, Arizona is a non-profit biological field station owned by the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. We have been in operation since 1955. Our primary mission is to encourage and support biological research and conservation. We host researchers, students, workshop, courses and naturalists from around the world. Primarily we provide room and board, laboratory space, technical equipment and support facilities for those studying the extraordinary biodiversity of the Chiricahua Mountains and surrounding environments. SWRS is seeking a full-time Cook. This position qualifies for full benefits and a small one bedroom home (utilities paid) with kitchen/living room and bath. SWRS employs 2 cooks working 3.5 day shifts (40 hours/week) serving breakfast, lunch and dinner cafeteria-style. The Cooks work closely with the Kitchen Manager, who is responsible for the cafeteria budget and helps the cook prepare meals 5 days/week. Guests, volunteers and staff can range from 10 - 80 people. A typical day will start at 5 am and end at 7 pm with a few hours break in between meals. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Cooking and serving 3 meals a day, cafeteria-style. Portioning the amount of food to match the number of guests. Designing weekly menus. Assisting with the ordering of ingredients from the supplier. Adapting menus to provide for vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and other food allergies as needed. Maintaining a clean, sanitary work environment. Managing volunteers working in the kitchen. The expected salary for the Cook is $40,560/annual. This position is overtime-eligible and the AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community. Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
