XE: Experimental Humanities & Social Engagement, an interdisciplinary master's program in the Graduate School of Arts and Science at New York University , invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor whose research and teaching focuses on environmental justice, rooted in interdisciplinary methodologies drawn from the sciences, social sciences and humanities. Clinical faculty teach three courses per semester, advise and mentor students, organize public programs, and participate actively in shaping the life of the program. This position will be based in XE with contractual teaching obligations in both XE and the Department of Environmental Studies at NYU. XE is a highly innovative master's program and tight-knit community of scholars and practitioners who value collaborative mentoring and career building, as well as exploring new pedagogies and research methods at the intersection of creativity, criticality, and social engagement. The Department of Environmental Studies administers an undergraduate major and minor in Environmental Studies, a minor and MA in Animal Studies, and will launch a new PhD program in Fall 2025. Environmental Studies aims to provide students with the breadth of understanding and the skills necessary for resolving environmental questions and creating a sustainable future. We seek outstanding scholars of environmental studies whose work engages with social justice. The successful candidate will be committed to interdisciplinary inquiry and their fields will include, span, or exceed: biology, ecology, multispecies studies, food systems, environmental policy, and climate change, and they will be able to translate key concepts in science and technology studies to students in the Candidates must be committed to interdisciplinarity in scholarship and excellence in teaching. While PhDs are required, we welcome candidates who have a public-facing critical or artistic practice in their field/s.
