New York University?s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a continuing contract (non-tenure track) Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Music Technology program to begin on September 1, 2025. The appointed faculty member will be a member of the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions. The NYU Steinhardt Music Technology program is one of the premier programs nationally and internationally at the intersection of music, sound, audio technology, engineering, and cognitive psychology/neuroscience with over 300 active students in our thriving undergraduate, master's, Tonmeister, and Ph.D. programs. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative colleague to join our Music Technology program. The field of specialization within Music Technology for this position is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates who could teach arts-based research and music creation in the following areas: instrument and performance system design, composition of electronic music, music composition, music production and engineering, machine learning, hardware and software design and immersive audio (including creative applications of live performance, game audio, and AR/XR/VR environments) with a focus on teaching undergraduate and masters students. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher, advisor, and mentor to undergraduate and graduate students; participate in program and curricular development; and serve on program, department, School, and University committees. The teaching load for this position is six (6) 3-point to 4-point courses, or their equivalent: three (3) each semester, Spring and Fall. Course load may be adjusted for administrative and related/equivalent duties.. Other duties include undergraduate, master's, Ph.D., and D.M.A. candidate supervision, developing and maintaining professional bridges to the music technology industry, student recruitment, and program administration. Participation in faculty meetings, committees, and other services appropriate to a university faculty member is also required. Clinical Faculty may also engage in scholarly work or creative production. NYU Steinhardt faculty may have the opportunity to engage in teaching at these global sites. In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $74,000 - $114,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in music technology, performance, composition, computer science, engineering, digital media arts or a closely related field. A successful applicant will demonstrate commitment to excellence as exemplified by publications, performances, installations, compositions, and/or hardware/software design. Experience in teaching and mentoring of students is also desirable.
