The Motor Drives and Power Electronics Lab (MPlab) (http://mplab.ee.columbia.edu) at The Fu Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science of Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist. The Associate Research Scientist will conduct research in the MPlab on the design and control of power electronics, motor drives, and battery systems for transportation electrification. Reporting to the Lab Director, the Associate Research Scientist will be responsible for assisting with power electronics system design and testing, and working with graduate students and postdocs. The Associate Research Scientist should be able to work independently, troubleshoot, and resolve problems involving both equipment and processes in the laboratory environment. The engineer should be able to learn about unfamiliar topics quickly and independently. The engineer should be able to communicate clearly with lab users, other team members, other departments of the university, and vendors as needed. The Associate Research Scientist will also assist with general lab management responsibilities for maintaining a safe and effective working environment within the Bioelectronics Systems Lab in compliance with all University and government requirements and regulations as directed by the university's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) department. That includes but is not limited to the safe handling laboratory items, implementing and maintaining safety training, and safe manner of work in the laboratory. A Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Candidates with a strong grasp of semiconductor processing and electronics are a plus. A minimum of 5 years of work experience conducting organized research, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. A CV is required.
