Associate Research Scientist position is available immediately in the Laboratory for Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering directed by Dr. Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic. We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic, and highly accomplished investigator with experience in human stem cell culture and engineering human tissues for studies of systemic pathologies in organs-on-chip platforms. The work will involve (a) differentiation of iPS cells into cardiac, vascular, pulmonary and bone cells, (b) gene editing of human cells to generate reporters for tracking cells and their functions, (c) engineering of bone marrow, cardiac, and vascular tissues to study multi-organ crosstalk, and (d) development and utilization of on-line and end-point assays of tissue composition, structure and function. Strong experimental skills and published experience in the area of human cell and tissue engineering are a must. The investigator is expected to take a leadership role in one of our research projects, publish research findings in high-impact journals, work closely with the lab members and collaborators, ,directly supervise project a research assistant and help mentor and supervise graduate students. Development and validation of a multi-organ-on-chip platform for studies of human patho/physiology 30% Research studies of bone marrow and cardiac tissues linked by vascular flow 30% Derivation and characterization of the mature cellular and tissue phenotypes 30% Supervision of a Research Assistant 10% Works independently and with regular communication with the PI. Direct supervision of one Research Assistant, including time allocation. Indirect supervision of PhD students, MS students and/or undergraduate students. Reports to the Principal Investigator. Candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD and 5 years of relevant postdoctoral research experience. Strong published experience in one or more of the following areas is required: immune engineering, tissue engineering, and organ-on-chip systems. Preference will be given to candidates with strong expertise and strong published record in cell and tissue engineering. We seek a candidate with demonstrated ability to conduct multidisciplinary research, and with excellent writing and communication skills.
