CCNY was the first free public institution of higher education in the United States and has been committed to the dual goals of accessibility and academic quality since its founding in 1847. The College campus occupies thirty-five tree-lined acres along Convent Avenue from 131st to 141st Street in the Borough of Manhattan. It has an international reputation for its ability to promote scholarly excellence in students of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and economic circumstances. Over 12,000 undergraduate students and 2,500 graduate students are enrolled. Its colleges and schools include the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with its divisions of humanities and the arts, social science, science, and interdisciplinary studies; the Spitzer School of Architecture; the Grove School of Engineering; the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education; and the School of Education. CCNY's engineering, architecture and biomedical education programs are unique within the City University. The College offers more than 115 undergraduate and graduate majors including doctoral degrees in biomedical, chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering. It offers Ph.D. degrees in engineering and also offers Ph.D. degrees in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and physics jointly with the City University of New York's Graduate School and University Center. Reporting to the Provost, the Associate Provost for Research will be responsible for promoting, developing, and reviewing research and scholarship throughout the College. They will contribute to the development of strategies and programs for the support and expansion of the CCNY comprehensive research agenda. This will entail working closely with faculty and administrators to promote, encourage, and facilitate research and scholarly activities. His/her efforts will be aimed at expanding research activities in all academic areas and developing new institutional research programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for all research administration including oversight of the Office of Research Administration, the Grants Officer and research policies at the College. This will include ensuring compliance with applicable Federal, State and University rules and laws as well as research integrity, compliance, safety, and export control. Supervision and coordination of the Human Research Protection Program/Institutional Review Board activities and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the animal research facilities. Play a central role in research relationships and advocacy with the federal government, industry, foundations, and international sponsors. Responsible for administering and monitoring all policies and procedures related to research. Coordinate and monitor the use of research facilities and be responsible for the implementation of the college research space use and allocation and college wide research core facilities. Coordinate the interdisciplinary research efforts and undergraduate research programs. Develop and report research performance metrics for the College community and external stakeholders. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Provost. QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will have a doctorate degree and qualify for the rank of full Professor in one of the departments of the College, with an established record in funded research and a demonstrated commitment to the College's historic mission of promoting academic access and excellence. The preferred candidate should have these additional qualifications: Demonstrated experience in research administration experience. Familiarity with the role of federal, state, local and non-governmental agencies in funding research. Understanding research security issues and budget structures. Demonstrated record in successfully building collaborative research ventures. CUNY TITLE Assistant Vice President COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Salary: $203,200.
