Equitable Investment Management Group is looking for an Associate General Counsel to join its legal team. Primary responsibilities for this position include:
Providing support on legal and regulatory matters relating to the firm’s retail and annuity-dedicated funds. This position would be responsible for assisting with fund board of directors’ meetings, fund registration statements, fund mergers, proxy and information statements and general fund matters
Assisting with the development of new fund products and initiatives designed to enhance the current fund offering
Handling of legal and regulatory matters relating to the firm’s registration and activities as an investment adviser and commodity pool operator; provide support on brokerage committee matters
Negotiating relevant agreements, including subadvisory agreements, and agreements with adviser and fund service providers and vendors
Supporting the firm’s insurance company in connection with negotiating and reviewing Participation Agreements with other mutual fund providers
Effectively interface with a wide range of stakeholders, including investment teams, compliance, fund administration, insurance product group, marketing and operations, in providing general legal advice relating to the funds
Juris Doctorate degree required;
Approximately 3 – 5 years of major law firm or relevant in-house experience. Experience relating to registered management investment companies (mutual funds), including in the Investment Company Act of 1940, Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and related securities and corporate laws.
Ability and desire to take on multiple clients and effectively prioritize projects and assignments for each client
Excellent written and oral communications skills as well as strong organizational and project management skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong team orientation
Demonstrable experience directing the work of paralegals or less experienced attorneys
Experience negotiating a variety of relevant agreements
Demonstrable drafting skills in the area of board memoranda and policies and procedures
