Equitable Investment Management Group is looking for an Associate General Counsel to join its legal team. Primary responsibilities for this position include:

  • Providing support on legal and regulatory matters relating to the firm’s retail and annuity-dedicated funds. This position would be responsible for assisting with fund board of directors’ meetings, fund registration statements, fund mergers, proxy and information statements and general fund matters

  • Assisting with the development of new fund products and initiatives designed to enhance the current fund offering

  • Handling of legal and regulatory matters relating to the firm’s registration and activities as an investment adviser and commodity pool operator; provide support on brokerage committee matters

  • Negotiating relevant agreements, including subadvisory agreements, and agreements with adviser and fund service providers and vendors

  • Supporting the firm’s insurance company in connection with negotiating and reviewing Participation Agreements with other mutual fund providers

  • Effectively interface with a wide range of stakeholders, including investment teams, compliance, fund administration, insurance product group, marketing and operations, in providing general legal advice relating to the funds


Job Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate degree required;

  • Approximately 3 – 5 years of major law firm or relevant in-house experience. Experience relating to registered management investment companies (mutual funds), including in the Investment Company Act of 1940, Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and related securities and corporate laws.

  • Ability and desire to take on multiple clients and effectively prioritize projects and assignments for each client

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills as well as strong organizational and project management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong team orientation

  • Demonstrable experience directing the work of paralegals or less experienced attorneys

  • Experience negotiating a variety of relevant agreements

  • Demonstrable drafting skills in the area of board memoranda and policies and procedures
