The Office of Advising & Transfer Support offers a number of specialized programs, workshops, and events to provide Guttman Community College students with academic, professional and transfer support throughout their time at Guttman. Reporting to the Director of Advising & Transfer Support, the Associate Director of Advising & Transfer Support works with the Director to manage and enhance a holistic strategy to impact enrollment and support student success. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Associate Director is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties: Facilitate educational planning and registration of students by coordinating advising operations with other College enrollment areas, including Admissions and Access, Registrar, Financial Aid and Bursar; serve on Enrollment Health and periodically attend Department/Program/Area Coordinator meetings. Participate in the planning and implementation of workshops and seminars on best advising practices, utilization of web-based platforms such as DegreeWorks/CUNYfirst, major declaration, exploring career options, personal development, transfer to baccalaureate programs, scholarship opportunities, and other relevant academic and career topics. Hire, supervise, train, and mentor full-time and part-time staff. Coordinate programs in collaboration with the Division of Academic Affairs. Manage scholarship support programming for the advising office, including collaboration with Financial Aid and external partners to present scholarship opportunities and facilitate scholarship applications. Support readmission procedures and readmission orientation in collaboration with other enrollment areas. Report on activities and outcomes using best practices in academic advising and program assessment; make recommendations on program enhancements. Serve as lead for transfer support programs, including transfer fairs and transfer days, the Transfer Bridge Program, and external opportunities, in coordination with faculty and other staff. Create and maintain an Advising Manual to guide the work of the office; ensure advising guidelines are followed. Serve on appropriate College and University Committees, including CUNY Advising Council and CUNY Transfer Council. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor?s degree and six years? related experience required. Preferred Qualifications: Six or more years of counseling, academic, and/or career advising/student development experience with diverse student populations, particularly with under-prepared high school or college students in an educational setting or program, preferred Evidence of progressive managerial responsibilities Master's degree in related area Crisis management experience Experience working in learning communities Multilingual ability preferred with strong presentation, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to successfully work with and present to diverse audiences Experience working well with linguistically, culturally, and academically diverse students Strong work ethic, character and personal integrity, and ability to work with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality Detail-oriented with strong writing, analytical, evaluative, and organizational skills Ability to work well in a time-sensitive, dynamic, student-centered, and responsive office Flexibility to work evening hours and occasional weekends CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW Manages the development and operations of academic counseling services.
