Position Summary Reporting to the Department Administrator, the Associate Director of Faculty & Human Resources supports the Department of Biostatistics by managing the specific functions/ensure the implementation of best practices for human resources and faculty affairs policies and procedures for the Department. Responsibilities Managing faculty job postings by updating information in the Academic Search Overseeing all payroll responsibilities for BST, including working with other University departments to process additional compensation requests, managing the seasonal part-time faculty rosters, and coordinating with BST managers to ensure accurate payroll submissions for hourly employees; Processing appointments of Faculty, Graduate Research Assistants, Postdoctoral Research Scientists/Fellows and other research personnel by working closely with the MSPH F/HR, CU Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, CU International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO), and Department faculty and staff, corresponding with candidates to receive all relevant information, and drafting various required letters for the Chair?s signature; Working collaboratively with MSPH Faculty and HR Office, in addition to CUIMC Payroll, to address and solve any payroll and appointment issues; Handling medical leaves of absence by working with MSPH HR and University Leave Management Office, ensuring all relevant documentation is completed, monitoring Family Medical Leave hours, and tracking and processing return-to-work dates; Monitoring timelines for academic appointments and visa end dates to ensure timely notices of termination and/or visa renewals for employees and visitors to the University; Working with the ISSO, prepare and manage all visa applications and renewals for department faculty and research personnel; Assisting the Department Chair and Department Committee on Appointments and Promotions (DCOAP) on procedures for faculty 4 th year reviews, tenure/promotion cases and promotion cases without tenure; Managing 1 Faculty and Human Resources Coordinator, provide training, mentorship and guidance in all Faculty and HR functions. Developing and analyzing job descriptions for new administrative staff positions, supervising the HR staff in processing new hires, and orienting new employees to BST; Implementing an increased HR presence throughout the recruiting process for staff by screening resumes, conducting phone and in-person interviews, handling reference checks, and meeting with interview panels to discuss applicants; Oversight of monthly tracking of time off, including following up on incorrect submissions to assure adherence to University guidelines; Assisting the Department Chair and Department leadership with the annual performance review and merit process; Researching and scheduling internal and external training seminars for employees to support an enhanced training program for BST employees; Counseling faculty and staff by explaining specific policies and procedures as necessary; Providing consultation regarding employee relations when necessary; and Performing other related projects as needed and assigned. Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor?s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four (4) years of related experience. The successful candidate will have a passion for Human Resources and a strong working knowledge of HR best practices. Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, are essential, as well as a strong attention to detail. The incumbent must be able to prioritize responsibilities and work well in a fast-paced environment. S/He must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and exercise discretion and sound judgment in dealing with confidential employment matters and information. A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Columbia University systems, policies and procedures is a plus for this role.
