The Desplan Lab at NYU?s Department of Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as an Assistant Research Scientist/Scholar Part Time Non-exempt at 14 hours/week. Projects in the Desplan Lab include conducting research on the underlying mechanisms of genes that control the development, evolution, and function of the visual system. Currently planned projects use Drosophila genetics, molecular biology, and imaging techniques. Responsibilities include: ? Maintaining Drosophila stocks, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and contributing to the organization of the lab. ? Designing and performing genetic experiments to investigate mechanisms underlying neuronal migration in the optic lobe of Drosophila melanogaster. ? Conducting single-cell multiome experiments, integrating RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and ATAC-seq techniques, and analyzing the resulting data using bioinformatics pipelines. ? Conducting functional analyses to validate the roles of candidate regulators identified through bioinformatic analysis, including brain dissection, immunostaining, and confocal microscopy to visualize and confirm the effects of genetic manipulations in the optic lobe. In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $13,104.00. The ideal candidate will be a BS, PhD or MD/PhD student in Biology or a related field, with prior research experience with biology/medicine and statistics.
