Job Type: Officer of Administration Bargaining Unit: Regular/Temporary: Regular End Date if Temporary: Hours Per Week: 35 Salary Range: Commensurate with experience Position Summary The Assistant General Manager provides leadership in the management and development of the assigned Residential Dining Unit The position will be responsible to directly train and develop front of the house staff for both full and part time employees, while providing support to the designated Leader of the Residential Dining Unit . Responsibilities Supervises Diningâ-™s plan to attain the unitâ-™s operational goals. Assists the in managing the performance evaluation, and development of Unit Assistant Managers in assigned area of responsibility. Manages and schedules staff to maintain the service standards while operating within budgeted labor cost guidelines. Responsible for reviewing payroll for all union staff and temporary staff for accuracy. Assists in scheduling staff. Manages all payroll and is responsible for the HR tracking log. Takes the lead on developing, planning, and monitoring the Special Events with the team Identify opportunities and works with leadership and the team to implement new ideas to facilitate the achievement of financial goals. Remains aware of industry trends and constantly seeks and implements innovative new products and services for customers. Ensure adherence to Federal, State, Local, and Columbia University sanitation and OSHA rules, regulations, standards, and codes. Supervises all unit staff to ensure customer and associate satisfaction in a healthy and safe work environment. Assists with all unit hires, monitor their training and evaluation, and assist in identifying and addressing unit staff membersâ-™ developmental needs. Interacts effectively and diplomatically with the University community including staff, management, campus departments, student organizations, and the general public. Develops relationships with people from public areas of the University to maintain a customer friendly environment. Manages special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelorâ-™s degree required. Minimum of 4-6 years of related experience; preferably in food service management. Must have 4 years of experience supervising staff. Strong organizational and supervisory skills is required Extensive management experience in food service. Ability to work a flexible schedule Previous experience supervising a unionized workforce is highly desirable. Experience with computers desirable; i.e.: proficient in Word and Excel. Knowledge of Kronos Payroll System is desired. Excellent interpersonal skills required; including strong written and oral communication skills.
