The New School seeks a dedicated professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Volunteerism and Alumni Communities for the Department of Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE). Under the direction of the Director of Alumni Engagement, the Assistant Director will create, enhance, and manage volunteer initiatives that cultivate dynamic and supportive alumni networks and productive, career-facing alumni-to-student engagement activities. These programs will create opportunities for all seasons of alumni, from new grads to well-established alums, to get involved in volunteer activities, including but not limited to: mentorships, admissions ambassador programs, alumni welcoming committees, regional and affinity groups and committees, reunion and class representatives volunteers, speaking engagements and workshops, and additional school-related engagement activities. Responsibilities include recruiting, training, and recognizing volunteers; organizing events and activities that promote alumni engagement and foster lifelong connections; and, inspiring charitable giving of volunteer hours and donations. The Assistant Director will also assist in the development and management of the Executive Alumni Council of The New School.  The New School is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and particularly seeks applications from members of underrepresented groups, as well as candidates who share this commitment.  RESPONSIBILITIES Design, lead, and direct operations for volunteerism programs, with emphasis in Alumni Communities programs, virtual and in-person alumni-to-student mentorships, and event and reunion host committees. Recruit, manage, and support alumni volunteer leaders in Alumni Community groups associated with geographic and industry affinity, school celebrations and reunions, and inclusive-heritage communities. Current active Alumni Communities include Alumni in Los Angeles, Alumni in China, Black Alumni, LGBTQIA+ Alumni, and Asian Pacific Island Desi American Alumni. Collaborate with Development colleagues to identify, cultivate, and solicit potential donors from active Alumni Community members and leaders. Manage student-alumni affinity programs including, establishing and growing a student-new grad affinity group, administering a graduating student class gift program, and producing career-based workshops for students and recent graduates. Assist the Director of Alumni Engagement and Director of Events with local on-campus and NYC tri-state event productions and global receptions in locations like Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, Paris, Mumbai, and Seoul. Domestic travel is possible. Manage The New School Network Graduway platform and New School LinkedIn Groups to foster interactive online alumni networks and alumni directory resources. Provide programmatic assistance to Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving Programs team members in the management of the Alumni Council and Parent and Family Council. Other duties as assigned.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 3-5 years of experience with a demonstrated record of directing and growing community volunteerism and events in an education or nonprofit setting. A strong work ethic with an ability to take initiative and exercise sound judgment, while effectively managing multiple projects. Exceptional organizational, verbal, and written communication skills coupled with a strong attention to detail. An entrepreneurial, solutions-oriented disposition with the ability to prioritize tasks, anticipate, embrace, acquire and use new skills, and creatively address challenges. Exceptional collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to be effective at engaging with and establishing credibility with stakeholders at all levels across the University. Demonstrated technology skills related to development, marketing, and events preferred (i.e. Salesforce, Adobe, Splash Event Marketing, or comparable). Availability for day, evening, and weekend work is essential. WORK MODE Hybrid - Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice.
