The Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Student Centers is a crucial member of the team led by the Associate Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. The main responsibility of this role is to act as the advisor to the New School University Student Senate (USS). This involves supporting and promoting the development of student leaders within the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of this organization, as well as helping them in conducting training, programs, or events that contribute to creating a lively campus life. This position will be responsible for overseeing the Student Senate's daily operations within the university community. This includes providing budgetary oversight, advising on elections, offering guidance to executive officers, coordinating the funding process for registered student organizations (RSOs) and individuals, and managing the transitions of officers and operations each academic year. Moreover, this role will serve as the primary manager of the Universityâ™s designated student space. They will be accountable for managing the space's day-to-day operations, including staffing needs, facilities requests, and events management. The Manager will develop a deep understanding of university facility policies, equipment, programs, services, and areas of the spaceâ™s functions. This is a full-time, 12-month position and serves on-call, and supports evening and weekend activities. It holds non-traditional/flex hours to meet the needs of the department such as staff meetings and staff training and development. A successful Assistant Director will establish and maintain strong relationships with campus partners, peers, supervisors, immediate staff, and guests. They must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, leadership abilities, and the ability to exercise sound judgment, customer service, and initiative in stressful situations or emergencies. RESPONSIBILITIES University Student Senate:  Advising: Serve as the primary Advisor for the USS Executive Board, Senate Committees, general body, and conduct regular one-on-one meetings with elected officers. Copy/edit and finalize official USS communications, and partner with the Student Success Communications office to manage outreach to students. Assist USS in strategic planning, including programming, procedures, officer transition, ongoing budgeting, and attend USS-related student conferences as needed throughout the year. Foster collaboration with members of the Student Leadership, Involvement, and Transition Experiences (SLI-TE) Team and USS co-advisors to support RSOs, the Student Activities Board, and student engagement needs. Programs & Events Planning: Training: Create and implement leadership development programs such as the USS semester-based retreats, leadership transition, and other topics considered priorities by USS leadership and the Dean of Students. Events: Support USS members in planning and implementing events to collect student feedback, offer opportunities to connect with campus leaders, and foster a sense of community. Provide strong support to USS members in the planning and execution of large-scale USS-sponsored events. Elections: Support the planning, coordination, and execution of the annual USS elections process. Assessment & Finance Collaborate with the Senior Director of SLI-TE to maintain oversight for all contracts, payments, and purchasing for services, activities, and programs related to the USS and their executive and legislative budgets. Conduct assessments to measure the effectiveness and student satisfaction of USS initiatives and programs. Student Space Management Manage, evaluate, and oversee daily student space operations and facility functions, including student staffing, maintaining a high level of customer service, and ensuring the student spaceâ™s environment exudes a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Responsible for recruitment, scheduling, and supervision of student staff, as well as maintaining the daily operations of the space. Oversee the University Posting Policy enforcement, including ensuring compliance with all university posting policies and procedures, including the review, approval, and communication of university posting policies to all community members. Serve as the direct liaison with Facilities Management to continuously improve the maintenance and environmental services within the space, ensuring the service level is being successfully implemented and adhered to. Responsible for working with the Provost for Strategic Academic Planning, supervisor, SLI-TE, and others to manage the day-to-day capital improvement projects throughout the space to ensure the highest quality of service to our students and guests. Conduct assessments to measure the effectiveness of this student spaceâ™s initiatives, events, programs, and usages. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelorâ™s degree required; Two or more years of full-time professional work experience in collegiate student affairs or related experience. Experience in advising student organizations and/or Student Government Association. In addition to a regular work schedule, be available during non-business hours on site when necessary, to support university events, and respond to student space-related inquiries. Must be self-motivated, manage time well, and be able to effectively organize, manage, and complete many tasks simultaneously. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated capacity for exhibiting and conveying professionalism in a public-facing role. Tact and diplomacy when dealing with difficult situations. Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure. Strong technology experience and full functional use of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook). Ability to create and structure reports, conduct data analysis. Strong problem-solving abilities. Creativity, flexibility, and collaborative skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS A Masterâ™s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or a related area. Experience in an academic or university setting. Student or staff supervision experience. WORK MODE Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (eg: 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-HYBRID  SALARY RANGE $68,000 - $70,000 We look forward to receiving your application!
