The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary Triage routine and non-routine patient specimens including sorting and organizing specimen containers. Perform patient registration, computer accessioning/data entry into laboratory information system. Troubleshooting and obtaining missing and incorrect specimen data and patient demographic information. Maintaining detailed records and logs of specimen deficiencies and resolutions. Answering telephones, light typing, photocopying, sorting mail. Retrieving information from laboratory computer system. Performing other related duties pertaining to the proper functioning of the laboratory. File, track, retrieve, and transport items including but not limited to: slides, blocks, requisitions, reports, and specimens throughout the medical center for distance of at least 5 miles daily. Responsibilities 60% - Patient registration, computer accessioning/data entry into laboratory information system, assigning case numbers, sorting by case type and labeling patient specimen containers. 20% - File, track, retrieve, and transport items including but not limited to: slides, blocks, requisitions, reports, and specimens throughout the medical center. 15% - Answering telephones, light typing, photocopying, sorting mail. Retrieving information from laboratory computer system. 5% - Other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Two years of college or completion of secretarial school or equivalent business experience plus a minimum of two to three years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor?s degree desirable. Knowledge of Copath, Word, and Excel preferred. Knowledge of billing fee codes CPT and ICD preferred. Typing 30-35 wpm preferred Other Requirements Must have the ability to work independently and accurately in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills. Medical terminology is required. Must be willing to work evenings. Must be able to walk up to 5 miles per day. Must be able to successfully complete systems training requirements.
